Marines issuing suppressors?

This always seemed like a no-brainer to me, not to mention the savings recoupled from a lifetime of VA disability for a large number of service members - nice to see MC moving forward with "suppressors for all..." (well maybe not all, but you get the idea, not just Force Recon/MARSOC)

Figured I'd throw this here rather than making a new thread, since the overall topic of the Marines upgrading all of their small arms is related.

This video popped up in my video feed. I'm sure this is just a DVIDS B-Roll that someone assembled, but it shows MARSOC with their new M27/A5 upper guns. I knew they were getting them, but didn't realize they were already deploying (or working up) with them.

Another interesting thing to note is the customization. I know regular Marines have been painting their rifles for a little bit now, but the varied optic mounts and stocks is abundant here, even given they are MARSOC and have extra freedom.

Anywho, I thought it was interesting to see the new guns in action, along with fast-roping porn.

Some nice M18 pistol goodness in there as well (with SF weapon lights)

Not a fan of the pistol lanyard thing.

In my opinion the pistol lanyard is a must have. In Iraq I saw guys knocked out o their trucks by IEDs and we found their pistols tossed quite a way further. Moreover, in a CQB fight dropping your pistol is bad enough but can happen…losing it is worse. Besides, no one in SOF complains about having a carbine sling.

Great context!!! Makes perfect sense.

especially the high-rise optic mount, first time seeing that in action.

Wow a high rise mount on a MARSOC weapon? That EOTECH glass or T1/2 etc (battery dead or broken makes no difference) can make a killer rear sight aperture. Center the front sight in the rear "aperture" then center it up on the target and press. Plenty good enough for government work at CQB distances. I'm not a fan of putting your sights way up there above the bore axis.

It's very much a personal preference. There are some noticeable benefits to raised optic in CQB or so I've heard... Height-over-bore can be compensated for with training, but again it's not everyone's cup of tea.

These guys routinely work under NODs…it’s nice not to have to awkwardly get cheek weld while under NV.

Also, by being that tall, high rise mounts offer options for backup irons through the mount, under the optic.

???

I mean I'm a high-drag low-speed old dude who will almost certainly never use a weapon in anger, but that just seems weird.

I used to tear the shit out of paper targets from 500 yds, with just iron sights and some Kentucky windage. I don't know why the kids these days need anything else. ???

In concert with that, while lasers were the hotness during GWOT, there definitely seems to be a renewed focus on reducing signature in the last year or two where it concerns an enemy that might be able to see everyone waving around light sabers at night.

1.93 and 2.x inch height mounts are all the rage on the civilian market now...and with the LARPers, as well!
