IWC Board June 2020

With the results coming out for the March board I thought I'd start the June board thread.

I'm submitting my package for IP 1820 next week with the following:

ITC with 10 years AD
IW/SW/AW
Master Training Specialist
Evals EP, EP, EP, P, MP, MP
SEC+, CySA+
Bachelors in History: 2.37 (Did get a C in Calc I)
Masters in IT Telecommunications Management: 4.00
OAR: 54
ACFL with Excellent PRTs
LOR: O6 1820
Appraisals: O6 1820, O5 1820, and O4 1820

I threw in the SWO/IP option too, but doesn't look like they've been selecting anyone for it. Personal statement is 100% geared toward being an IP.

Just crossing my fingers my undergrad GPA doesn't kill me here.

You should calculate the BA and MA for a cumulative GPA to get a better picture, but seeing the BA id estimate the cumulative is around 2.7-8 ish range which is on the low side.

It is what it is, just going to come down to whether it is the deciding factor for the board.

Like I said, crossing my fingers it doesn't kill me here. There's nothing I can really do about an UG GPA from 10 years ago.

as competitive as IWC is odds are it will, did you get a waiver for the UG GPA less than 2.8?

IWC is one of those designators that can be very brutal on looking for anything to decline an application, one board the senior member looked at the number of applicants and cut everyone that had less than a 3.0 average GPA, another time a board anyone with a waiver was cut.

I would during this wait look at LDO, your certs, your evals should be a good boost for LDO.

I've applied for LDO three times, trust me I'm trying every avenue to get a commissioning.

I spoke to the OCM and he said a waiver wasn't required as the Master's degree supplements the UG GPA.

Worst thing that happens is they say no.

Anybody have any idea if the LDO path is more selective than OCS? Or vice versa? Figured LDO would be less competitive considering the removal of civilian and junior enlisted candidates, but maybe there are significantly less spots which makes it as competitive.

The difference is you don't need a degree to apply for LDO. As long as you are an E6+ with 8-14 years in at the beginning of the FY you are applying for you are eligible. 682X is the LDO designator for IPs, and routinely has ~10% selection rate or less. This last board didn't take a single E6, only E7s. It is extremely competitive. With that said, IP LDOs are forced to offramp to 1820 by the time they're a LT, so they are taking folks with degrees almost exclusively (there's a few exceptions here and there).

The sad part is a lot of LDO programs are disappearing, like Intel for example is gone.

Has anyone heard anything about if the Application date is getting pushed back? I asked my OR and he said nothing has been confirmed so far but he expects it to be moved. Additional rookie question here: is your medical examination at MEPS apart of the application? I have everything I need processed however I haven't been able to make it to MEPS due to COVID.

That said, my application package for INTEL 1830:

OAR: 67
B.S. (Marine Science) - 3.65
Grad Cert (Applied Statistics) - 3.8
Grad Cert (Geospatial Science) - 4.0
Cumulative GPA - 3.68
LoR: Former Boss, Professor, and Coach

Unless they start making exceptions the rule is you must have a PQ letter from N3M prior to your application being seen a board.

Being an ITC you are like a unicorn in the fleet. At my command all our first tour IT's get out. They get their certs, SCI clearance, and they're gone. I don't blame them. Good luck!
