Best of all, this solves the problem of limited deck space. Park a truck on it.
Good, let the arty guys get yelled at for clobbering the running track/parade ground that some misguided souls might call a flight deck.
Just send an LCS with them and park the truck there instead of the LPD. Then the LCS caps/lims brief will actually have a capabilities slide.

Huh. You could do the same thing with mobile SAMs....

A much more limited and expensive solution.

With current SAMs? Sure.
More thinking feasibility.
An ARG is pretty toothless with just organic air defense.

But if say the Army ever got Patriot integrated the way SM-6 is...
Although in all fairness, it'd really be easier just to backfit VLS onto LPD's...you just wouldn't be able to leave those missiles behind with the Marines after you dropped them off.

You’re not going to see a TLAM employed for a CAS fires request from marines on the ground.

DDGs don’t go with an ARG, only an ESG. if you don’t have the whole gang then there’s no TLAMs. Also as others have mentioned TLAMs aren’t used in this capacity (strategic vs tactical). I’m guessing this should be viewed as a slight at USN’s lack of NGFS.

Hasn't been employed that way in real life, and probably never will, but the Blk IV can be used in a tactical situation.

So the DDGs that escort the L-ships have no TLAM? I'm pretty sure they do.

I'll stick to my statement that this is a neat science experiment.

ARG is LHD, LPD, LSD only. No escort. Based on the situation, escorts can be added. New to the thread, so apologize if this was already covered.

Imagine if the Marine Corps spent time and money on something useful for once, not stupid shit like shooting HIMARS from a flight deck. It would be like Ireland before the discovery of whiskey...

It's an idea, not doctrine. The Corps has played a joke on the rest of the military by not refuting the "Jarhead" stereotype. Modern amphib, vertical envelopment..........both the result of big brains in the Corps. Because of limited resources, culture, and professional officer and NCO development, I'm sure that the correct decision will be made.
