Thought I'd put in a plug for the Google Earth product. I downloaded the free version from the link above and it has some cool features.

To keep this Naval Aviation-related, it might be a good tool to use for getting pictures of unfamiliar airports, or for figuring out course rules.

I'm not nearly nerdy enough, but it appears that there is a way to label landmarks and share them with other people. Not sure how, but some enterprising SNA could set up course rules checkpoints for his fellow studs.

You can zoom in more than that ;)

And you can add tilt to get a low angle view. Awesome program. Be good for a VNAV route, provided you have updated images.

Zoom, scroll, tilt, find the nearest boobie bars, lots of useful stuff.

You can use the big map they give you when you class up. ;) To each his own, but to me that seems like much work for little return.

I have used it to plot IAF's for approaches in order to up my SA as to where the spot is located physicaly.....do what you have to do in order to stay ahead of the 'man' :)
A lot of work for little return, but I was able to tell myself I was 'studying'...just an excuse to dick around with a cool little program.

Wow. Now that I've installed it I can see where it'd be useful. Found myself poking around all sorts of places. It's vaguely scary, though, what's in the public domain. I could count the T-45s on the ramp at NMM. Of course their images can't be too current because I could also count the T-2s. :) Still, one wonders if such detailed maps of military bases are a good idea . . .

Yeah, google says that the images in the database were taken sometime in the last 3 years.... so we could be looking at old stuff. And some of the stuff is obviously "cleaned up". Take a look at certain buildings in DC to see what I mean.

Help me out so I don't have to look it up .... squeezed too many limes and now it's time to grill steaks .....

... Is this different from maps.google ????? Every time I put "boobie bars" in the search function there it zooms into the lanai on my 3rd deck ?????

MAHALO .....

A new low (or high) for Air Warriors... a satellite picture of A4's favorite strip joints
Using the program, you can zoom in to see more detail, tilt to see the side profile, and rotate around an object. It's like porn for geography majors. Unfortunately, you cannot zoom inside the buildings.

HA! The greatest technologies ever devised by the human race and what do we use it for? You, sir, have reaffirmed my faith in humanity . . .

My boyfriend is in Advanced Jet training as an NFO and uses Google Earth. It is a really neat program. It helps him ALOT with his flight planning!

That's an awesome sight. Anyone use ArcGIS? I could probably put together a nice set of maps showing all the good boobie bars and such using those photos. Even put in information like cover charge, dancer with biggest boobs, and home address for you stalkers out there.

And yeah, probably good for flight planning too.

Anyone happen to take a glance at Iraq, got some good images there.
Yup, that was one of the first places I looked at. Some interesting stuff. Of course, some of the buildings aren't there anymore... :icon_tong

How about an airport quiz. Here's 3 snapshots of major civilian airports (no opsec/basesec here).

Clues:
#1 - SWA up north
#2 - T-34s often here
#3 - famous "cowboy"

Any guesses?
