I haven't seen my appraisals either. I would say that even if your main thing is being a pilot, it doesn't hurt to apply for NFO. They might frown on the fact that you would rather do something else more, but at least you are trying to put your foot in the door for consideration. How did you determine you had 40 transferable credits?

You have to take a pole in your college choices. The colleges are more than willing to take calculus, trig, english, writing, etc. They have to be standard. Like something everybody does. I have gotten quotes from different advisors for what I want to do. Even though I am in the University of Maryland Systems, other colleges will give me more credit sometimes. Are there any classes in question?

Applying for: Oceanography/Core (First time applying)
EVALS: MP,MP,EP,EP, MP (New command)
College: Have an AAS... currently have 88 credits at University of Connecticut with a 3.86 GPA
SMART: Can't remember how many credits but without my personal credits it's somewhere around 70, but the school's I am looking at will only accept 60 total so I will still have 60 to do.
CLEP = 6 credits - English Comp. with Essay
High School: Don't have exact GPA with me but was bad, failed senior year and graduated a year late near bottom of class
Awards: 1 NAM, 1 Good Conduct, 1 Admirals Letter, 1 CO letter, 1 JSOQ
Rate/Rank: STS1
TIS: 6 Years
ACT: 25
WARFARE QUALS: Submarine Warfare
Collateral Duties: Served as Ship's Oceanographer, Ship's Sound Silencing Petty Officer and currently serve as Sonar "A" School Leading Petty Officer
Special Quals: Sonar Supervisor
PRT: Good Medium, Good High, Good Medium
LOR's: CO from last boat, WEPS from last boat, UCONN Physics Professor (Prior USCG Officer Ret.), NY State Assemblyman

I think I had a really solid personal statement and I went through my package with a fine tooth comb for a couple of months before I did my interviews to make sure everything was correct. Also, both boards I think went very well to include the CO's interview. I spent almost 2 years reviewing the application guidelines and speaking to selectee's before finally deciding to put in my package so I really feel good about the quality. I really do worry however about the fact that this is my first time applying. Also, because of how new the Oceanography option is I am very curious to see the quality of sailor applying and being selected. Good luck to everyone!

FY13 Sta-21 Applicant EDO/SWO
DiverDan, I'll humor you. These forums are a lot slower than I remember when I went down this path a few years ago.

APPLYING FOR: SWO/ED
EVALS: E-5 MP (Ranked 14), EP, EP E-6 MP (Frocking), P (New to command, but addressed in CO's LOR)
COLLEGE: 42 Credits (VT: GPA < 2.0), 18 Credit (Community College:(Calc I & III, Physics I, Intro to Engr and Computer Programing for Engr.) GPA = 4.0) VT was prior to enlisting and a major contributing factor

HIGH SCHOOL: 3.4 GPA (All Honors and AP classes)
AWARDS: 3 NAM, 1 Letter of Commendation from ship as E-4, 1 recent LOC for Instructor of the Quarter from this past June, 2 Good Conduct, 1 GWOT, 1 National Defense
Rate/Rank: FC1
TIS: >8 Years
SAT: 1430 (750 - Critical Reading)(680 - Math)
WARFARE QUALS: Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS)
COLLATERAL DUTIES: Command DAPA, Command Financial Specialist, Regional Sexual Assualt Prevention & Response Watchbill Coordinator and Victim Advocate
SPECIAL QUALS: Combat Systems Coordinator (As a 2nd Class), CSOOW, Track Supervisor for Aegis C School, DAPA, Urinalysis Coordinator, 9502 Instructor NEC
PRT: Good Low, Good Low, Good High
LOR's: 2 - Capts (Prior CO's) 1 - LT (Former DIVO)
DEPLOYMENTS: 6 month deployments to 5th FLT AOR X 3 (Various assignments)

If I make it I'll be stoked, but I'm in it until it's no longer an option. We'll see, I'm also 30 years old so I'm on borrowed time. I'll be too old in just a year or so to realistically be able to graduate before my 35th birthday. Good luck to you.

Thanks, I'm sure the board will take your age into account. It's my first time applying for this option so I know I may just have to apply next year. Still I think my application is pretty solid and shows I have a lot of background in the engineering field. Both Admirals have known me for years and were leaders in the ED community and wrote me really supportive letters.

Good luck to you too! Hopefully we'll both get it and see you there.
