These morons can't think beyond the end of their political noses.
"To reduce the use of guns for criminal purposes."

Do they really think criminals are going to pay attention. CT residents had better practice their reload skills on their Thompson Contenders.

"...use any gun except one made to fire a single round"

All those old side by side shotguns are now worthless in CT.

What's going on in the Northeast (NY and CT) is NOT freedom. Hasn't been for a long time and it's just getting worse.

I'm sure that MS-13 is re-thinking how and what weapon acquisitions they are going to make in the future.........you know, after the size of "magazine clips" are regulated.

It may depend on who's definition of a pistol grip they use and how that can affect the use of a detachable magazine. I forget which definition CA uses, but there's several different kinds of grips you can buy that aren't legally defined as a pistol grip and therefore legal to drop mags.

7 rounds? Certainly safer than 8, of course. I wonder if anyone will start making 7 round mags (other than for guns that already carry that).

It can be very confusing for LE here in CA as to what's legal and what's not. In the CA academies, they spend about 5 minutes on the subject. A few of my LE friends keep this document in their vehicle as it was recommended by LE Mgmt here in Central CA some time ago. Unfortunately many of the younger LE's don't think they need it so they're the ones that usually don't have one on hand when they actually need it. But it's a good example of how confusing the laws are when it comes to simply identifying the rifle here in CA. The link can be printed on just 2 pages!

Which is why it's incredibly stupid. The thought processes in the halls of CA legislative offices are pretty much non-existant. It's just like everything else: It's about the politician "making the world safer" by getting their name on a piece of BS legislation that bans something else so they'll have a talking point during their next re-election cycle. To think otherwise is naive.

Here's the 4-page write up of Feinstein's bill:
http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/24/politics/feinstein-bill-details/index.html

Basically bans the following:
1. All semi-auto rifles with detachable magazine & at least one "military feature"
2. All semi-auto pisols with detachable magazine & at least one "military feature"
3. All semi-auto rifles and handguns that have fixed magazine with 10 or more round capacity
4. All semi-auto shotguns with either folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with 5 or more round capacity; detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with revolving cylinder
5. All ammunition feeding devices of 10 or more rounds

Along with the document is a list of all of the firearms that fall into those categories.

MagPul, a well respected manufacturer of various magazines in Colorado including (gasp) those evil high capacity types, has been very clear that they will leave if Colorado outlaws their products for their citizens. I'm sure there are several states that will be happy to have their jobs.

In the meantime, their attorneys have written a very well constructed letter to the Governor of Colorado that points out the complete and utter absurdity of the law. It would serve as a template to point out the same complete disconnect from logic that other liberal state's legislators are busy implementing "for the children" that simply removes citizens rights and does nothing to prevent crime.

Meanwhile, other states (notably Texas) are laying out incentives for Magpul, Remington, and Colt to make the move to greener pastures.
