It was only a matter of time, honestly. I know the FAA has been getting about the threat these present and I don't blame them. Bird strikes are bad enough but I can imagine drones would be even worse. The best thing you can do is keep them away from any airfield and punish those who get too close.

Drone is a really stupid term, because it fails to distinguish between truly autonomous aircraft and remote-controlled aircraft (and what does fertilizing a queen bee have to do with military aircraft?). I think the important distinction is whether the aircraft is being continuously monitored/controlled by an operator or not. My proposed terms are RCAV (remote(ly)-controlled air vehicle) and RAV (robotic air vehicle), respectively.

The Air Force uses (and it trying to push to the rest of the DoD) RPA- remotely piloted aircraft.
