Beretta has been warning they would drop plans for a new expansion in Prince Georges County and leave MD if new gun laws pass. It looks like they are following through. Don't know anything about this source, but they are quoting the right guy. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/guns/beretta-leaves-maryland-following-stricter-gun-laws
Beretta has been around since the 1500's it is possibly the oldest corporation in the world still operating. Seems they are good to their word. They are just the latest firearms related company to move from an unfriendly state. Even more interesting are companies that are vowing not to sell merchandiseto the government, or individuals exempt from laws (like LEOs), that can't be bought by Joe Lunchbucket.

Guess this falls into the category of "states get the corporate presence/employment they deserve"…for any of a number of reasons…taxes, labor costs, hostile legal restrictions…whatever. Hope their planned expansion lands somewhere nice where the jobs and products are valued and appreciated. Sadly, it won't be California either...

I was listening to a podcast of Grisham's Gun Talk (http://www.guntalk.libsyn.com/) running the 10 mile arc on the beltway from NOVA this afternoon and he had the President of Bennelli on (Beretta, Bennelli, Stoeger = same) and he had some interesting stuff.

(1) They will make no announcement until after Emperor O'Malley signs his imperial edict into law

(2) After another moronic Maryland governor Paris Glendenning signed the stupid do nothing “smart gun” legislation Beretta build a facility in Fredericksburg VA with land to expand.

(3) Virtually every state with the exception of NY, NJ, CA and CT has called him and told him they would welcome them.

(4) They have no desire to support the tax base of a state that does not appreciate their product. He noted they are not building widgets but building a product that support the military, sportsman and lovers of the shooting sports and freedom. It’s business but it’s more than business and that the intangible of a hostile government is real.

(5) They have a large delivery of M9’s due and cannot move that part quickly.

(6) If they moved everything to VA their employees would be able to commute, albeit a little painfully for a while and their average employee has been there 14 years so they want to take care of them.
