15 Aug 18 Pilot/NFO board

I was not selected on this board and I think it was mostly due to a recent public intoxication charge( class C misdemeanor). I am reapplying for the February board and my recruiter told me that I have to write a short one paragraph statement asking to be reconsidered. Im retaking my ASTB soon and I know I will easily score above a 55 5/6/6 this time around because I only studied for a week last time. ANYWAYS, can yall help me edit my statement below?... I really dont know what to say other than I want this really fkn bad!

"To the members of the OCS selection board,

Thank you for taking for taking the time to review my packet back in August and once again on this current board. Not being selected my first time around has reconfirmed my desire to become a leader in the Navy and has honed in my focus on this goal. Over the past 6 months since hearing the news, I have improved my scores, remained in good moral standing, and continued to volunteer in my community.

Please reconsider my application and thank you again for your time."

Be more self flagellating. I talked about my misdemeanor reckless driving conviction, which in my state happens if you go +20mph over the speed limit (I was much faster), like it was my biggest moral failing and how, in my repentance, I realized lessons valuable to a future naval officer.

Good luck on the ASTB! I’m sure we’ll both get accepted in February!

I had 6 tattoo waivers and a legal waiver for criminal misdemeanor for assault just last year. And both of you have a lot better GPA and scores than I do. I did state in my waiver what had happened and clearly I was not in the wrong but self defense/not self defense was a juggle for the courts for some reason.

Your tattoos have zero influence for board selection.
And I’m not gonna argue with you on that. I’m just adding my tattoos because 2 of them got denied waivers and I had a week to cover them up and request another waiver. The doc at Meps also noted them on my medical sheets. Which is why they denied the to begin with.

February is going to be my first board, Erik1993 was just denied. Was hoping to make the one in October but my PQ letter hasn't come yet.

You're prior service, which seems like a big advantage for selection, so the board may be more willing to cut you slack than dumb college boys like me and Erik. One of our resident recruiters can correct me if I'm wrong. Also, depending on what type of assault you were charged with/convicted of, the Navy sees assault as a lesser offense than reckless driving, which is wild, since they judge the severity of reckless driving based on the fines which vary wildly from state to state, meaning the same offense in two different states could be a traffic violation or a misconduct offense even if both are criminal charges.

You’re probably right. I mean at the least....they can probably take a guess and say that the physical and mental part won’t be an issue for me. They are just praying I’m not as retarded as most Marines make themselves out to be hahahaha

Lol, could be, could be!

I am curious @RUFiO181 do the board’s members discuss each applicant’s packet as a roundtable or does each member have a stack of packets and a yes or no is an individual decision? Kinda seems like the former would make selection easier.

Yes, I’m curious about this myself.

Given how little everyone seems to know about how exactly a board works leads me to believe that there's probably something occult going on in Millington.

I got a serious question for you. My recruiter didn’t say too much. I haven’t received a finsel yet, but I was informed today if I can leave for the Sept.23 class. I’ll go if it works out, but is it possible to go without having a finsel on hand. Long story short, they need a couple more applicants for the sept.23 class, and they are asking if he had any applicants who are okay to leave this weekend. I just wanna know how possible it may be. Thanks
