When are ROTC cadets given the PRT?

The official answer will probably vary from unit to unit, but the way we did it was that you'd have a PFA during indoc/orientation week to see where you are. If you pass this one*, you did not have to do remedial PT. If you failed, it was no big deal scholarship wise, it just meant that you were on remedial PT until the real PFA.

*My unit used to consider "excellent" passing. Anything below excellent and you were on remedial. For scholarship purposes you had to actually fail to get in any trouble.

There's no trick to doing pushups (or situps, or any exercise). If you suck at them, do a lot of them until you can do more. Challenge yourself to do a set number every day and then raise that number by 10 or so every week.

That's good to know Pags. I believe my unit actually considers "Good" and up passing, at least that's what my handout implies.

I have a buddy currently attached to A&M as an OC (STA-21 guy). Might want to PM him to find out the commands policy and get a more definite answer of how, when, and what to expect. His name on here is Surfer727. If you can't get in contact with him PM me and I will call him.

Good luck!

yeah just to pile on, some units do more than one pfa per semester. one being a practice one, which if you fail, doesnt count towards any scholarship failures but puts you on remedial, and one being the official, and if you fail more than one of these, you could get in some hot water. best advice, go balls out so you're not in any unfavorable spots

If you have any questions about your unit's specifics, don't hesitate to call and ask them. Or ask them to put you in touch with one of their current Mids, who could also give you the straight skinny.

That's how we did it at my unit. PFA for all incoming freshman during indoc week. Everyone in the battalion ran an inventory pfa at the beginning of the semester, which determined who was going to be on remedial pt. The final pfa was taken at the end of the semester and was what counted on your fitreps. Don't sweat it too hard if you goon up the initial pfa during INDOC/O-week. Just make sure you continue improving and don't fail another one. Good luck.
