Isn't it? I love how they've broken it up into north and south. This is the heaven that awaits me upon retirement.
Just wait 'till you move and then you won't take the PacNW for granted. I'll be sure to take pictures and make beer recommendations if I am still cognitively capable. This picture shows maybe 1/3 of the tents , people, and beer There are 81 breweries represented at this 25th anniversary of Oregon Brew Fest. Each brewery must choose only one of their brews to represent at the brew fest.
For the other side of the country, Southern Tier Brewery from NY has been doing good things lately. Tried two of their Imperial Stouts last week in Pensacola - the Creme Brulee and the Jahva, both very nice.
The creme brulee stout is ridiculously sweet, truly an alcoholic dessert. Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk 2
That's because you've been in Seattle too long and have succumbed to the brainwashing campaign. Everything that is good about Seattle, Portland does a little better, a little quirkier, a little more interestingly, and with a little more character, IMO. Not to hate on the Emerald City at all, because its also awesome. Just prefer the Oregonian vibe.
A coworker was in the ready room this afternoon, enjoying a Ruination. He offered me one. I still have to fly tonight. I had to refuse. That, gentlemen, is the definition of "discipline."
Grrrrreeeeeaaat!!!! For our friends from Thailand... And those who appreciate formaldehyde in their frosty beverages...
Grew up 15 minutes from there and know most of the crew...great stuff...glad to see them getting love outside the region.
I am a huge fan Blue Mountain Brewery's "Full Nelson" IPA. The brewery is a pretty sweet spot tucked up in the Blue Ridge if any guys in D.C. or Norfolk are looking for a good excuse to drive out there.
Firestone Walker made in Paso Robles Ca. Was stationed at Vandenberg AFB from 06-09 and lived about 20 minutes from the brewery. Taproom serves great food too! Their double jack imperial IPA is top notch.
Cool, never had it or heard of it. Funny since I'm an OSU grad, and grew up in Eugene, though there is never a shortage of new things when I come home to visit. I will have to try it when I get home for my sister's wedding next month. My personal favorites are basically anything from Rogue, Stone (I miss their brewery being a 15 min drive from my house), and more recently have enjoyed Ninkasi when I'm back in the PNW (have never seen it anywhere else).
They were conveniently located right down the street from the USD campus and were always eager to dispense tastes. Plus, the adjacent brewing supply store was always well stocked.
That's another reason why I like them is their brew store. Their main brewery is about a mile away from MCAS Miramar. 21+ of their beers on tap and within reasonable prices. There's also growlers available if you need to stock up on good beer for a while.
Picked some of this up last weekend just cause I liked the name. Very pleased with the flavor not to mention the 6.9% ABV. Good stuff. http://www.smuttynose.com/beers/full_time_beers/finestkind_ipa.html
Speaking of Growlers. The Md Law changed this month to allow any bar to fill any Growler, even if they don't sell their own Growlers. Handy.
There's a new brewery in Norfolk that has some pretty good brews, and they've been showing up in the local Harris Teeter and Food Lion. I'm partial to their Great Dismal Black IPA. The guy started as a homebrewer, and shops at the same homebrew store in Norfolk that I do.
Speaking of good brews in the Hampton Roads area, I rather like this one: On another note, I was excited to see in the grocery store the other day that fall beers are starting to arrive. This one from Salt Lake City is my all-time favorite:
