Azguy is proud of, and is defending his community. Unfortunately he's doing it in the wrong place, in the wrong way. He over played his hand, stopped digging with a shovel and rented a backhoe. He took the same oath and wears the same uniform (except for the shoes). You all should call a truce.
The dogpile would stop if he dialed back the douche factor. Just saying something stupid isn’t a big deal at all. He just has to own it. Instead he’s doubling down, and he deserves every bit of ridicule he’s receiving.

He would have learned about that if he actually had what it takes to fly the jets he aspired to.

He is defending his community the same way those open carry nutjobs defend gun rights by carrying their AR-15s in front of Starbucks en-masse and scaring the hell out of soccer moms, because it is "their right" to do so. Maybe, but being an asshole about it won't win you any friends, or lend any support to your cause. If I were a SWO, I'd be telling him to get off my side right about now. In addition, @azguy has got quite a bit of it wrong. For instance, when he accuses members of certain warfare communities/subspecialties of not being important enough to rate an opinion, or completely disregarding what HSC and HSM do for the fleet. He seems to have one hell of a chip on his shoulder, and doesn't seem to mind taking it out on everyone else.

For those reasons, he has earned every bit of discontent that is directed his way. His might be the most epic meltdown I've witnessed on AW, and that is saying quite a bit.

I'm wondering if his silence the last couple of days means he finally took our advice and left. If so, kudos to him for not making one last snarky "fuck you" post like a lot of people might.

Duty on Christmas...

Me: Hmmm, how to kill time? Write fitreps?..... Nah, I'll check AW, I haven't been on there in a while.

AW: Here, check out this shitshow of a thread, complete with name calling, butt hurt-edness, memes, and even a little logic sprinkled in for good measure, but not too much! (Now with MORE butthurt!)

Me: Yep, nothing has changed. Nothing at all.

I would just like to thank all of you fine Americans (even those who aren't kill-chain centric) for all of the entertainment this thread has provided!

Well,

When one has a degree, s/he can catch up entirely different area of warfare much faster than one without degree. That is why the 1960's discussion in Soviet Air Force ended with the claim of degree for pilots, which before it was highly disputable vs air engineers or air navigators who had to have a degree by default. The wartime situation might easily put the pilot in command of tactical squadron or wing in a position with responsibility of defending the airfield perimeter with purely infantry way of thinking, or organize the logtrain, which takes the logistic skills, or even to build the maintenance crew as a whole from parts of separate units with no air engineers available. A degree with simultaneous flying training was, in opinion Air Force in USSR, the best way to prepare the pilots to what one cannot be fully prepared - to a real war.
The surface, let alone submarine navy - another story...

I.e., the daily routine of any ship ot sub, including MCMs and aircraft carriers, no matter how big or small and which navy is concerning, is resting on the shoulders of, eventually, LDO/CWO corps (and CPO one, but that's yet another story). Here - in the ship companies - Mustangs are the backbone. Why? They know the hull, equipment and men as a whole and how it works as that whole much better than URL people. And fuck any degree here - personal experience is way more important. This area of responsibility cannot be "tactical first" - admin and maintenance work rules here. To some degree, Army aviation (here in Russia too) is built along these lines rather than "tactical" ones.
But concerning the air affairs, when crews are small and aircraft commander might be O-2, there is no place for slow and indolent timing of "good administration", and the flexibility of the person with a degree is the best substitution for it. That all is my opinion, of course.
For short: in big military, there is big market for Warrants on any grey or black piece of iron that can float. There are very poor sales for them on all that can fly.
I didn't understand, either, what Azguy wanted to say, but I doubt that USN DDG vs PLAN DDG or USN SSN vs Russian SSN makes good sense. Navy, any navy of any nation, is supporting force from about 1953, when Korean War had divided the military history on "war to the ending victory" and "other war". For this "other war" no military branch can be main cast. Each of them just supports politics and politicians.
