I bought my SDB, cover and shoes from Marlow White, who has a commissioning package special. They are an Army haberdasher that now sells Navy uniforms http://www.marlowwhite.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=59-K-100

SDB w/shirt, tie, soft boards, sleeve lace, sleeve device, uniform guide all for $ 375.00. You'll just have to get the device and lace sewn on. With this package I added dress cover and shoes, all for $ 523.00 (w/free shipping). Still have to work on getting the rest at NEX.

When updating my medals, I go with medal medic (www.medalmedicstore.com). If you have the medals already and send them in, it's $5 per medal for the mounting which is a pretty decent price. They always look good. They also have stores in Va Beach and Jacksonville so if you're in the area you can drop off and pick up and save on the shipping.

I picked up a pair of khakis the other week, the Flying Cross version. I've gotta say I love those permanent military creases. Back in the 'old corps' I had to iron those dawggone creases.

I ended up buying a relaxed fit jacket over the net from NEX. It arrived in exactly one week. Not too bad. I was a little concerned when the website stated 'orders ship in 7-10 business days'. Online is definitely an option for items when positive of sizes.

I still want to try on SDBs. I'm going to Pensacola for a long weekend in May. I'll pick up the balance of uniforms then.

How did your SDB turn out? Where did you have the tailoring done? Locally? I see that the MW SDBs are 100% wool.

I travel out to Leavenworth fairly regularly. If I can make it out there before DCOIC I may get their uniform. My preference would be to try on the uniform before purchase. I'm a little concerned about buying a uniform that's not available through NEX. I'm sure it's a high quality uniform, but I'm still concerned.

Hey Duck,
Turned out nice. I couldn't tell a difference between mine and a NEX brand worn by a Senior Chief at my commissioning. One thing I will say about this uniform is that it is MUCH more comfortable than my tried and true Coast Guard SDB coat. The Navy SDB wears like a nice suit.

I did have my tailoring done locally, which was interesting. My tailor accidently sewed the stars about 15 degrees off on each sleeve, so I had to have these re-sewn, but other than correcting this one problem the set now looks great. The shirt they included in my package is a Creighton with "made for NEX" Navy label. I'll probably upgrade to the Brooks Bros. shirt later, mostly for higher thread count comfort. If you go out to Leavenworth, it looks like MW has a nice showroom. It wouldn't hurt to stop and try on a set.

That Brooks Brothers white shirt is worth its weight in gold. I got the regular old Flying Cross SDBs but sprung for the BB Shirt. The few people in my class who didn't regretted that mistake quickly.

I second the BB Shirt. The material feels a lot nicer, and I found it to be much more comfortable.

Why would you spend the extra money if you don't need them or are not required to have them?

It's your money. If you want to spend it playing dress up, go right ahead.

Good Afternoon... I just updated my ribbons and I am some what confused as to how to arrange the Navy Non-Medals Ribbon that are worn with Large Medals on the right side. Kindly advise... is this the correct order? Thank you.

Ribbon/medal precedence is always inboard to outboard, Meaning the highest is always going to be closest to the center of your uniform. You can use the rack builder to verify, you'll just have to change the settings for right side wear.
