Here's is Usain Bolt, being interviewed after winning the Men's 100m in the Olympics. Simultaneously, Sonya Richards-Ross was participating in her gold medal ceremony for the Women's 400m. He interrupts the interview with a point and the words "national anthem". With the cess-pool that professional sports has become, there are still some world-class athletes with class...
The Silver for class goes to Gabby Douglas' handling of all those "hair" comments. Bronze to Serena Williams for not attempting to excuse her victory crip walk (yet). ...and Fourth place goes to McKayla Maroney, whose loudest words were unsaid.
Erick Barrondo of Guatamala, who won his country's first-ever Olympic medal and then used his victory speech to appeal to his countrymen to eliminate violent crime. It's been a pretty good games so far.
Huh. He always came off to me as a cocky bastard. This definitely makes me rethink my opinion of him. Thanks for sharing it.
No joke. This is the Olympics, not a fashion show. That's funny, I could have sworn she was competing for and representing the United States of America. And doing a damn fine job of it, too! Ms. Jenkins is certainly entitled to her opinion, but it would carry more weight if she was, you know, the #1 competitor in her sport in the entire world (and at the ripe old age of 16, nonetheless...what were we AWs doing at that age?) At her level of sport, I'm sure Miss Douglas wears her hair the way she does for utility and safety - not to placate those who can't look beyond her phenomenal abilities.
Sure Ms. Jenkins probably is at risk of type II diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, but her hair is ON POINT !
The IOC sure didn't waste time making sure the web was purged of the video. I can't find it anywhere now.
He's the fastest man in the world, twice over. Most of us on this site just land piece of shit airplanes and that makes us a demigod in our own minds. He's earned as much swagger as long as he keeps killing it out there, and appears to still be a class act.
No worries - I've got your back... http://s223.photobucket.com/albums/...iew-To-Recognize-American-National-Anthem.mp4
Mr Bolt is from Jamaica, but still shows more respect than most Americans at ball games. Solid. "The Star Spangled Banner" always brings a tear to my eyes. Screw those hippies who'd rather have "America the Beautiful."
I guess I'm one of those hippies. America the Beautiful is a mo' better song with mo' better lyrics. I'm a fan of what George Carlin said when he was in the Garden State ("'Garden State.' Sure - if you're growing smoke stacks!") some 24 years ago:
I guess as long as you don't use the original... That verse isn't particularly national anthem-y. Does take a bit of the jingoistic edge off though.
It doesn't matter if you're the #1 exporter, only that other countries' brands of potassium are inferior.
Professional athletes could learn a thing or two from the Olympians... Here's 5 year old Ellie, who had a chance to race Oscar Pistorious of South Africa. She won all four times. Strong work, Mr. Pistorious, strong work.
