Exactly my point. "You know this is the last 55k weight board shot he'll be rogering up in this platform..." WTF? We've become Madden-ized.

Air&Space

Has anyone read the Tomcat tribute in the Smithsonian's Air & Space magazine? Its pretty well done... great pics and personal stories and a couple info-pieces on what makes the swept wing work and on Iran's Tomcats.

The website has some stff the article doesn't and vice versa.

Great tribute to a great aircraft.

Speaking of Air&Space, the former VF-31 F-14D Tomcat that was saved from the SARDIP cutting torch at the last minute has now been given a facelift and is ready for her public debut at Udvar-Hazy facility near Dulles. This Tomcat is F-14D(R) BUNO 159610 that was a VF-32 F-14A when it was one of two Tomcats involved in downing of 2 Libyan MiG-23 Floggers in Jan 1989. It was later selected for conversion to a F-14D and went on to stalwart service as a precision strike platform with VF-31.

I think this is the point where A4s chimes in with an admonishment to cease the "Tomcat is going away and it was the bestest jet ever" group orgasm. :D

No, I loved the F-14. Everytime the Turkey would throw up a wing in a fight -- every A-4 Adversary in the Western Hemisphere could see it --- it made our job about 10 X easier ... :)

Anyone care to guess why ... ??? :)

I like how they stripped the 4 wire... just for a little added pressure.
Negative. All you "need" is one wire.

There's no more pressure on you with one, two, or three wires than a batter with 2 strikes on him. The batter's still just as good a hitter as he was when he came out of the on-deck circle and stepped up to the plate with the count N0 balls, N0 strikes.

We went through more than one line period with only 2 or 3 wires (total, not the specific wires) ... arresting gear engines break --- so get used to it and remember --- you're still just as good (or bad, depending on the pilot :)) with one, two, three, or four wires ... if you just do one thing:

FLY THE BALL !!! It never changes ....

But you like flight deck "diversity", you say ... ??? Check it out, diversity -- CVA-63 -- 1972 style. :) Tried to get a Hummer in there --- no room without removing the Hummer's roof.

A view of the corral .....

Fly Navy at the boat with a trunk monkey...

Dude, you can't even get it right... WSO calls the ball. Have you ever even seen an NFO? ;)

Yeah, in 7 or 8 years, you wont see that sight picture anymore, so get in a good look. ;) This only annoys me because I've been dispelling rumors in other threads, but I'll say it here for good measure:

The Navy will fly Prowlers until at least 2015, so please stop acting like they're going away tomorrow!

I feel much better.

Rumor heard from the TRACOM stud by me today: "Yeah, they're not even sending people to the Prowler RAG anymore, blah, blah, blah." Seriously, people!
