Bushmaster-

You are looking for the Nighthawks patch. They are out of NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach VA. I would go directly to the Squadron. It helps them out and it is authentic. Plus it may be a little cheaper. Try calling this number and ask for their PAO (757)-433-9553.

Is that the Public Affairs Office? sounds like it... Anyway, thank you for the info Brodie...

Knighthawks' website is down, I couldn't find any information, does anyone know when or if they are gonna get Superhornets?

That is the Public Affairs Officer. He or she is usually in charge of all the geedunk (patches and stuff) the squadron sells. They are way down the list for Superhornets if they even get them. Eventually all hornet squadrons will be Superhornet or JSF suqadrons. All the Tomcat squadrons have to get Superhornets first. Best bet is after 2008 sometime. You never know though. As for the website, they can't sell anything off the website anyways, Navy rule. So calling is you best bet.

The jacket is a G-1 for the navy. Only Leather patches should be used on that type of jacket.

Why are you interested in VFA-136? Just for my curiosity. I was in VF-143 for three years as a maintenance officer. All part of CVW-7.

hey what about those nomex flight jackets I have seen. I heard that Navy and Airforce aviators wear those occasionally too.

Aviators and maintenance personnel wear the green nomex jacket the most, atleast on the navy side of the house. Why get your nice leather jacket all dirty around an aircraft leaking hydraulic fluid and fuel. Plus leather is not a fire retardent material.

I personally have worn my NOMEX winter weight flight jacket the most. I think I have only had the opportunity to wear the leather jacket like twice (yeah, rough being stationed in warm weather year round). But, you freeze your ass off sometimes at altitude, and when you end up flying to cold places. Not mention the added trashing of being around hydraulic, oil and other dirt that comes with preflighting and the working around planes....

Whats the REAL practice with flight jackets?

Ok, I've read the uniform regs on flight jackets. But I've seen senior officers wearing Green jackets with khakis (against the reg) and leather jackets with civies (also not specifically authorized in the regs).

So what's accepted with the wearing of the jackets?

Wearing the green with khakis is ok. Wearing the leather in civs is also ok. Regs say onething, but that is the reality and no one is going to bust your balls over it.

According to the Marine Corps Uniform regs, you can wear your "flight jacket" with the service uniform. Thus either the green or leather. With the leather jacket, if it doesn't have your nametag, it's the same as any off the shelf jacket.

I think I've seen maybe 3 people ever wearing a G-1 with actual leather patches. Is this a reg? Anybody I've ever seen with anything on it had embroiderd patches.

On a side note, the leather patches I've seen were pretty ugly. I guess the only guy who makes them is in Jax, and it's a 1.5 yr waiting list. A full 4 patch set is like 150 bucks or something. No thanks.

yeah, my friend's dad has been a rio, then somehow reassigned to a-6 nfo. he has about 14 patches on his jacket. too bad the intruders were decommissioned though.
