I remember that. Possibly the most awkward AOM ever. That, and I still remember the ball-busting the guy's on-wings got at their tie cuttings.

Anyone know what happened to the guy that got caught breaking into the exam lockers in API?

Had a roommate during API/Primary at Pcola/Whiting that my other roommate vouched for to take his room as he left for Meridian. Guy attrites from VT-6 for performance, and gets stashed at MATSG. Meanwhile random things start to go missing in the house (did I mention this guy had a pizza face?). I hide all my valuables away and, sure enough, notice a week or two later that my USNA ring is missing. Track it down to a local pawn shop where he told them "It was my brother's who just died" - Get it back, search his room for anything else that might be stolen and find illegal prescription drugs he bought across the mexican border while on leave. Turns out he sold numerous stolen cameras and random stolen goods all the the same pawn shop to buy drugs.....I got NCIS on that one pretty quick and he's in the Brig currently. Had track marks on him as well and no wonder he was all pizza faced and itchy all the time.
-Said SNA also did 60 down a residential road parallel to a road I was on just to beat me to our driveway to park....only to back into his friends' car WHO WAS RIDING SHOTGUN with him.
-His priceless comment to another roommate's wife "Yea I've gotten two girls pregnant but I got both of them to take care of it"

Where do we find such men?

My personal favorite was the dude who shot his finger off in the TBS parking lot.

I saw pics of the side of his car taken the next day. Looked like someone was murdered. He held his newly ventilated hand out the window as he was driving around looking for a place to park.

    Easier answer: lowered recruiting standards.

Thing is, for how large the armed services are, there are far fewer crazy stories compared to the weekly story that would crop up at the restaurant I worked at while in high school. That staff had maybe 60-70 people and every week someone different did something beyond stupid.

You haven't been in the military that long, have you? There is plenty of buffoonery to go around in the fleet, you won't be disappointed in the least.

Never underestimate the capacity that a Lance Corporal (or a group of them, God forbid) has for both good and evil. And there's a hell of a lot more of them than you.

Or junior officers. The clean up isn't quite as easy, either.

I can honestly say I never had to stop a JO from chasing a black cobra with a piece of plywood and a mop. In a country that had no anti-venom. Two LCPLs, yep I had to. True story.
