If you have to use that much mental gymnastics shooting for the minimum numbers you will fail during the real deal. Due to stress, sleep, overhydrating, and lack of quality food you will be weaker and slower than you are now. Don't just scrape by. Surpass. Seriously aim for a good low.

Of course not. But the moment you show that you didn't study for knowledge they're going to take time to find enough things wrong to fail you.

That's about what I expected, show a lack of preparedness and they shark you even harder. I've heard that it's wise to bring extra clothes to use for RLP, is it possible to prepare stuff for RLP before OCS and bring it in?

You got it. You can bring extra clothes if you want, like extra boot socks, but I wouldn't bother prepping in any way but relaxing and working out. If you're feeling up to the task you can go through Appendix Bravo to make your life a little easier. Anything you pack is gonna get tossed around and you'll be instructed on how to prepare. I'm pretty sure you get one trip to the NEX and uniform store to buy extras should you want them and get a haircut before RLP too.

I've got 8 months minimum till I go to OCS so with the way I'm PT'ing now I'll have no issues smoking the program. I can browse Bravo when I've got time to kill between now and then.

Appendix Bravo is probably the best way you can prepare beforehand. If you show up at OCS confident in your PT abilities and with Appendix B memorized, your time at OCS will be very easy so long as you don't have an attitude.

If you've got that long, definitely memorize all of Bravo. That will save you time while you're prepping for RLP. You can focus exclusively on folding, etc. and not worry about the knowledge part.

Well, they switched away from Appendix Bravo right before I left in June. It's called Appendix Charlie now, and the wording and content of a lot of the stuff has totally changed. Just fair warning, you might be studying for the wrong things.

meh, worst case scenario, we die.

Do you remember any of the differences between Bravo and Charlie?

Well, in the newest OCR (as of APR 2018), appendix B is essentially unchanged, and it's what you'll be tested on for RLP primarily: https://www.public.navy.mil/netc/nstc/otcn/pdfs/OCR Appendix B.pdf

Appendix C used to be statistical information about ships, subs, aircraft, and armament/weapons. That was primarily used for the 8th week inspection. Not sure how that has changed since there isn't a version of that floating around the internet yet. But studying that before OCS is kinda overkill anyways. You'll have lots of time at OCS to study for 8th week.

Study your big five: USN/USMC ranks and insignia, General Orders, Code of Conduct, Principles of Watchstanding, and the songs.

Do not bother with anything else. They switch out key words, change phrasing, or sometimes switch out entire blocks of knowledge. Not even the chain of command is safe - they change that occasionally too.

And if any of you guys have a copy of Kilo and are feeling charitable, you should really keep that to yourself so that they don't make major changes to it again in the near future. OTCN staff checks this site regularly and keeps things spicy. Study your big five - and if you're feeling very nerdy, take a look at chow hall procedures on older versions of the OCR.

You know the OCR gets published on navy.mil, right? Appendix B from 1530.6k is already out there. It's not black market smugglers leaking them from OCS :D. Sure there's probably some OTCN staff on here, but there's no way they make sweeping changes to the OCR based on what some people on an internet forum are talking about.

The one currently on there is Lima, not Kilo. They have App B from Kilo on there, but people on this thread are asking about things out of Bravo’s scope. Also, some pretty staple things are different - I showed up having studied gouge that was outdated, and that was having memorized everything off of their website. The message I’m trying to preach here is to study the big five.

What are the parameters when evaluating class ranking? Is it just academia and PT? Or do things like RLP and drill play into it? If PT affects class ranking, does one's gender matter? For example, a man and a woman (both aged 25) finish their PRT-out run at 10:00. Would that time have a more positive impact for the woman, or is it received the same for both candidates?

Men and women have different PRT standards. You can google them to better understand.
