With the surge in Afghanistan and the declaration of open-ended combat ops in the Levant, it's almost assured that FY-18 OCS attendees will get the NDSR, no?

It's the same award. All medals can be worn as ribbons. Not all ribbons are medals.

Forgive me if this was already answered somewhere, but do you get any break in between OCS and introductory flight screening?

Depends if they're backed up or not. Last I heard, pilots are getting a few weeks/months of OHARP whereas NFOs are heading to Florida pretty quickly.

I know this is a potentially stupid question, for which the title of this thread seems appropriate, but ... Can anyone shed some light on the time we may have for grooming? I’m assuming we’ll be doing PT in the mornings after waking up, then I’m guessing have some time to shower, brush our teeth, get our hair into regulation, etc. Does anyone know how much time we’ll have? I’ve been practicing my sock bun and I’m not exactly a whizz at it. It takes me probably five minutes to do it properly. I’m sure I’ll get better with time, but I’m just a tad bit concerned about how much time we’ll all have to shower and get our hair up. My husband is enlisted Army and he said they got probably 10 minutes for hygiene after morning PT (but of course that’s the Army and that was boot camp, not OCS, and it was several years ago.)

Depends on the day but you will often find yourself in a 5 min shit, shave, shower situation

We were never in a situation where we didn't have at least ten to fifteen minutes post PT. Your initial few days it'll be tough, but if you wanna keep your hair you'll be more than fine for time.

You may be able to create more time for grooming following reveille by sleeping on top of your already made rack in PT gear...that's what we did during AOCS in the mid 1980s...not sure if it's applicable [allowed] during OCS now.

Can you bring lotion to OCS? It says no aftershave and no facial cleanser in the OCS booklet and material but it doesn't say anything about hand, face, or body lotion. If I were to put Nivea or Jergens or CeraVe in a carry on bottle (because of the plane ride to Newport) and bring it to OCS would that be a problem? Or keep it in its original bottle? Would any of that be an issue? Or is there a way to bring it without causing a problem? Thanks in advance.
