Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

"You can't make this shit up..."
How about "For all intensive purposes"? Or a new one I saw in a NYT online article the other day, "for all intense and purposes".

Literacy has really gone downhill in the computer age.

It is amazing the amount of typos, spelling, and grammar mistakes in online articles...

Which is paradoxical, because it’s so easy now to look that shit up!

Exactly!

I’m not as violent as @squeeze, so I don’t need to build an Internet face-stabbing machine (or was it a face-punching machine? Whatevs . . . ).

But I would like to build one that remotely slaps people in the face every time they say or write “an historic.”
How come there isn’t a “dislike” option?

There is a reason. If you are “amongst” those poorly educated types and say something as “sophomoric” as “a historical” those with good breeding and education might assume you mean ahistoric inasmuchas Ahistoricism refers to a lack of concern for history, historical development, or tradition. Charges of ahistoricism are frequently critical, implying that the subject is historically inaccurate or ignorant (for example, an ahistorical attitude).

(1) How much room for error is there to properly align the launch bar for the catapult shuttle, and (2) if alignment gets all jacked up, is there a taxi of shame around to the back of the line or do flight deck personnel gotta push you back?
It's real hard to mess it up, but if you do then yes...you can get pushed back.

Nosewheel steering is a wonderful thing. Get close enough (which any idiot who can taxi straight can usually do), and the person taxiing you will point at his/her nose with one hand and point left or right with the other. That means give a little NWS to tweak things.

Also, literally your every move on the flight deck is very closely controlled, so if your alignment with the shuttle is jacked up, there's a good chance it's the yellow shirts' fault and not yours. It's not like your taxiing up to the cat and eyeballing it.
