You and I are pretty evenly stacked up. I'm going to take the ASTB again soon but we have identical scores as well as GPA for the same reason. I also have a couple of O3 and O5 LORs, both Air Force, and my long time boss and professor. I'm hopeful, but being realistic, I'm thinking I'll have to test again for an immediate reapply. I know I could've done better. Keep me posted on your status and good luck!
Oh nice! When are you submitting? My OR advised me to not retest after my second attempt because she said it's strong for my app. I think my gpa is my weakness but I'm feeling confident otherwise.

I've only taken it once but I'm awaiting results of the December board. Should know soon. If I don't get picked up I'll retest and then immediately reapply. I'm going for NFO and I'll be applying simultaneously for the USMC next time if I miss out. Crazy though because I thought my gpa was going to be a moderate strength of mine, but, after my juco transcripts were added, I went from 3.2 to 2.78.

Just started the ball rolling with the Indy recruiter and looking into Intel. Good to know what gotcha in so I know what I have to do.

According to the discussion on the "Dec 2016 IWC Board" thread, I guess some of my credentials aren't typical of selected 1830 candidates. Some say Intel seeks STEM degrees over Liberal Arts degrees, like Poli Sci. But, in my opinion, the "well-rounded candidate" has the good shot. Good luck! I had a great recruiter out of Portland, ME. Always happy to help out a fellow Hoosier.

IWC overall seeks STEM degrees, non-STEM has the best shot with Intel over the other IWC designators, but even a non-STEM going for Intel (that grabs the non-STEM degrees) is a longshot itself given the overall number of people that apply who have non-STEM degrees.

If a person is under the age limit then SWO is by far the best chance, I unfortunately have worked with or seen other OR's work with candidates who were non-STEM and STEM who only wanted IWC, put in several applications, nearly all non-select, and age out of other opportunities.

Thanks for your note, sir. This is something I wouldn't have guessed, since the Intelligence Officer Candidate Program site mentions Political Science, among others, alongside STEM degrees: https://www.navycs.com/officer/intelligenceofficer.html. Anyway, I'm very happy to have been selected and look forward to OCS.

I highly discourage applicants going to that website because the information is either outdated, inaccurate, or even misleading. Case in point: There is no such thing as a SWO-INTEL option that the website mentions.

It's not an official dot mil or dot gov.

I second @NavyOffRec 's advice on considering applying for URL.

If you really want to do intel, you can potentially serve in an intel organization or CCMD J2 as a URL officer during your shore tour at O-3. Doing so will kinda/maybe crush your typical URL career path, but may help your lat xfer case for 1830. So it's sort of a one way ticket. Also, lat xfer is HARD and not a guarantee. But you get to wear the flight suit while you surf _____ and ______.

I see plenty of SWO and NA pins -- often "above the ribbons" -- but I am just one data point.
