Shooting at AZ Congresswoman Event

I am happy this all happened but it is unfortunate that it had to be at the expense of someone life. It was starting to get ridiculous and going no where. Majority of the populace is center of the political debate but the hateful negative remarks from the extremes of the political spectrum adds no value to the conversation neither does it get us closer to a compromise. Unfortunately, the loonies are not aware that some of these remarks are made in jest. Just listen to comments from Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Sarah Angle, Allen West. Or is it the picture of the Arizona Congresswoman with a bullseye that was once hosted on Sarah Plain's page. The Liberals are also not spared from this. Both sides are to blame. It just happens that the Rightwingers take things to the extreme and this is an example.

I hope things quiet down for a while. More importantly, the political leaders need to step up and start addressing these issues. Free speech does not mean good speech. Hateful inflammatory remarks are not necessary. Let us STOP it. We can agree to disagree and find common ground towards maintaining the American dream.

Here's where I'd make some comment about what the Left or the Right will or won't do . . . but I won't.

Because it saddens me that a bunch of people got shot, some of them are dead, their bodies are barely cold, and people are already using this to bring up political arguments here and everywhere. Really??

Disturbing.

As a parent, I know this kid was sitting in his room kicking around a head of lettuce more than a few years ago. He's only 22, so the parents must have known that he was hiding his own Easter eggs, so why wouldn't they have alerted someone, for their kid's sake as well as for others? How could you let your kid come to this? By reading some of his posts, you have to know that he was more than just a little "different", and in need of serious help.

And I would ask, is it any more or less tragic for those families who lost someone? The fact that it was a member of congress is going to get a lot more press and comment than for the others who were killed. Are we talking about an elite group? Of course we are. Congress. I'll have to bite my tongue lest I get another slap on the wrist for inappropriate language.
I truely feel sorry for the families as I do for our forces in harms way who are also killed or maimed on a nearly daily basis and with much less press coverage or hysteria. I doubt it will be kept in perspective and there will be a huge demand for further gun controls as happened with Brady.

We all have our opinions and predictions on what this means politically and what the fall out will be, but we should probably hold our breath a moment.

Sure the families arent going to be looking at AW and aren't going to be personally offended by something we type because they wont see it, but out of respect for the families of the dead, and those in the hospital lets not worry about the political ramifications of this particular multiple victim public shooting. I think in this case it's good that authorities have a suspect in custody, which is so often not the case in MVPSs and hopefully that will provide a bit more closure in the days to come.

Also remember the Congresswoman is not just another bystander, and not just a Congresswoman... a fellow naval aviator is grieving for his wife right now. Hopefully she has a fighting spirit and makes a speedy recovery.

I find the comment that you're 'glad all this happened' is a bit...well, disconcerting would be a mild way to describe it. Would you mind clarifying that a bit more? I read your post, but the first part of it got me a bit.

At the risk of speculating, I'm going to venture a guess that the shooter's home life was somewhat lacking in what I would call positive, present role models. Specifically, parents who could look objectively at their child, instead of whatever f-ed up blinders they had on. As a parent, I feel comfortable stating publicly that my daughter is not perfect. She has her mother's and my tempers, put together, and squared, for one thing. BUT I TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF RAISING A WELL-ADJUSTED CHILD SERIOUSLY. And I am ready to stand accountable for any deficiencies in my rearing of her. I would suppose that the shooter's parents/adult role models did no such thing.

Or, it may qualify as a typo -Which was my first thought when I read it.

But knee jerk bannings and assumptions without giving him the chance to clarify will stop that from coming to light.
Nothing 'knee jerk' about it ... a 9 year old was amongst the dead. Where is your head ??? Where's the "happy to see it all happened ... "??? Anyone that would say something like that to justify their long-held political agenda is a rat-bastard and not worthy of being a member of this website.

If you don't like it -- take it up w/ the Webmaster. If the object of the temp-ban doesn't like it -- he can do the same.

Or you could read the context of his post and figure out that it wasn't a typo. Motherfucker said he was happy people, including a federal judge and a 9 year old are dead because maybe it would get us to play nicer when we're talking politics.

More likely the opposite will happen. Automatic weapons, CCW responder (all reportedly). Everyone will read into this want they want to see.

The 9 year old was apparently born on September 11, 2001 no less, and was interested in government she had just been elected to student council
