Ship Type/Station

Just curious, what are the common ship types that a new SWO is usually stationed on fresh out of OCS/ whatever additional schooling may be required? Also, can a new SWO end up being station with a Marine unit? Besides Japan, are there any other stations usually open for a new SWO outside of the U.S. for their first duty station?

From watching the SWO Selection Night proceedings at the Naval Academy last time, I know you can select or be assigned to DDGs home-ported in Rota, Spain. Not sure if there were others, although that could always change in the years to come.

Have your OR hook you up with a SWO who can field these questions. Tons of variables and moving parts to give you a basic response here...

Being that you're in Riverside (CA) County, you can possibly get a ship tour down in San Diego.

Also, I would remove PAO as your second choice and put INTEL as your second.

is there somewhere I can look up those acronyms for the ship types? Also, do regular SWOs ever get put onto a carrier?

That's a start. HAL Pilot said it best and I say it again... talk to your OR to see if he could hook you up with a SWO to field questions face to face.

As for career pipelines, Pers-41 on their official website has a brief/PPT which goes into the career track of a standard SWO.
