    1. The military is not a democracy

    2. Remember...the military is ultimately run by civilians. These civilians are the ones who are discriminating, not the military. We are not right or wrong, we just execute the orders given to us by the "discriminators".

This might be a bit harsh, so those that can't handle that, don't read this.

The military's job is to f**king kill people, not be opinionated and oversensitive to fragile little minorities. The military allows any able american citizen, of any race, or creed to serve. This is all it needs to do.

When a military force must succomb to being oversensitive, and use caution and effort to avoid hurting the feelings of unique little snowflakes, it becomes weak.

If you like to kick on your sheepskin loafers, and prance around on your purple carpet, watching richard simmons workout videos, fine. But you might catch a little flak in the military.

As far as the boat... Don't park it in Hawaii.... They already took the Missouri away from me in Bremerton... I say park it in WA :D

Nicely put. That was the first thing I thought of when I read the article. It's not the military's policy - it's the policy instituted by the executive branch, Clinton of all people. My issue with the gays that "come out" while serving is this: Hey, it's an all volunteer force, and you knew to rules coming in, so you've got no leg to stand on legally. Bottom line, keep your sexuality to yourself and carry out the Plan of the Day.

BTW: Squeeze is NOT taking any sh!t these days. I love it! :D

Come on now, don't you get what Squeeze is saying? Apparently everyone that dislikes gays is a Southern redneck. So if you're English, German, French, Russian, whatever... slap that confederate flag on with pride! Makes perfect sense and is indeed an enlightened opinion as well.

Or Squeeze was using the flag as an icon for ignorance and you are pasting your own insecurities all over his post. Pseudo-intellectuals are the best!

If your HOR is San Fransico, does that mean you get to have a state room all to yourself on cruise?

eddie..to elaborate on my previous post I was born and raised in the South and there are always marches with skin heads, KKK etc and the Confederate flag is always used at these marches. By doing that it adds fuel to the fire for the NAACP and other groups to say the flag is bad etc. To those who truly understand the meaning of the flag, fly it and display the Confederate flag it makes it very difficult. I should be able to be proud of my heritage without being called a racist. Way off this subject, but it gets really old having the flag used the wrong way making it more difficult for the rest of us. That's all.
Does anyone remember the flag fight at the capital in SC? It HAD to be taken off the state building , but then it was also protested that it couldn't be flown at the Confederate memorial either. Enough is enough. If some idiots wouldn't use it the way they do then I don't think anyone would care where the flag was flown or what flag it was.

Wasn't that the thing where the confederate flag was 1/4 of the flag and they bit**ed about having that part removed like 2 years ago?

    Edit: wow...horrible grammar. Just horible

they should still park the Iowa in SF bay and every day (Mon-Fri people, c'mmon I'm not that unreasonable) at 1200 sharp fire a salvo into the city.

edit: I liked going to the Lexington in Corpus. I liked going to the Alabama(?) in Mobile. The city may have one million people, but the bay area at large has many many many more people that have not had the exposure to that part of history, whether is was not taught in schools or they have not had the oppertunity.

I still stand by my original post.... let 'er rip.

Just for the record, I hate the blow-hards on both sides of the issue. Nobody alive today has any stake or standing in what went down in the 19th century. So, the blacks who decry the confederate flag as racist are just as ridiculous as the southerners who say that it's a part of their heritage. Give me a fvcking break and get over it - both of you! It's because of the incessant complainers out there that life in this country is becoming more and more unpleasant for the majority who are content to "live and let live."

Agree with you 100% there, Schnugg. Too much PC makes us weak and whiny b****es. We need to get back to the days of rough, tough men like those who fought WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

Yeah, no kidding, those guys fighting in Iraq are a punch of pansies; not like the heroes of yesteryear...

All sarcasm aside, don't turn the PC-failings of politicians into some sort of indictment against the military...the mission of the Marine rifle platoon is still to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, and we are doing just that.

those that are Southern the flag does mean something. Something our ancestors stood up and fought for. Not racism or anything like that. It was something that was important to them in those days. We're proud of those that did stand up for what they believed in. Everyone is welcome to think what they like and you might think it is ridiculous and that's your right. All I was saying is that to true southerners we hate seeing the flag at KKK rallies and used the wrong way. That's all.
You don't have to agree or like it.

Your right GA girl.... There are flags all over the world that used to stand for things people stood up for. Such as racism, genocide, etc. You don't have to agree to like this.

Nooo, the Civil War had absolutely nothing to with racism. The fact that slaves were of a darker complexion was merely a coincidence.

That statement leads me to believe that the schools in the South teach the Civil War like schools in Japan teach WWII: we were attacked, we were right, Fort Sumter/Pearl Harbor, what's that? etc.

Now here's the irony. People who tend to wave the rebel flag speak about the war as being about state's rights. That is true, the South didn't want the federal government to legislate its agricultural practices. They wanted to leave it to the individual states. Now, many of those same people favor a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage; they don't want to leave it to the individual states.

There, now the thread is back on topic. :icon_smil
