Roll of ship when landing on carrier?

For the OP, we don't actually land at roll 15.....we time it and wait for her to come upright and attempt to set it down then.

My second favorite NATOPS term: quiescent period. My favorite is of course "bromotrifluoromethane," which was sadly removed from SuperHawk.

I never really understood why the Free Deck and the RA recovery had the same limits, at least during daytime. If I had the choice, I was always going to pick a Free Deck recovery first, just to mitigate the potential from murdering someone.

This might be a new AWs record if we get to the third page without anyone attempting to answer the OP's question whatsoever.

(I know, I started it, I deserve a lot of the blame...)

Aviators shouldn't care about Fox Corpen, just BRC! <glares sternly>.
Don't try to frighten us with your OOD ways. Your sad devotion to those ancient moboards has not helped you conjure up the wind envelopes or given you clairvoyance enough to read the plan of the day and see that it will be time for flight quarters the same time today as it was yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that...

During CQ, fixed wing operations are generally limited to 6 feet of longitudinal deck movement. Roll isn't usually a factor. Outside of CQ, there are no pitch and roll limitations. If the gyro-stabilized lens cannot keep up with the deck movement, then LSOs will rig MOVLAS. Once the planes are airborne, they have to land somewhere. Ultimately it's up to the Captain of the ship with advice from CAG and CAG paddles whether launching the airplanes is a good idea in the first place.

I've added a picture of some LSO gouge that shows you the effects of mistrim vs. hook to ramp clearance...the same numbers are true when the deck is simply moving.View attachment 20072

There might not be landing roll limits but from my long ago CVN OOD days there were roll limits for any aircraft movement (taxi or tow). I forget what they were but they got more restrictive as the non-skid wore down.

So you might be able to land, but you might not be able to clear the landing area afterwards.

It's truly baffling. Like getting 5 emails from the ship's OpsO (you know, one of the primary signers of the flight schedule) pleading for imagery of LZs to satisfy higher's requests for imagery. Those 5 emails continued to go unanswered since I wasn't on the ship all day, you know, getting those same pieces of imagery.

To his credit, he does have an excuse since he was busy being the TAO during the middle of the day. I don't think those guys have to know where the helo is, but I'm probably not too savvy on that stuff.
