OU, do tell...what almost got you attrited?
He took some pictures on his T-34 solo and posted them on facebook. Then a nameless AW who was friends with him on facebook posted the pics on AW. I guess the TW-4 Commodore or someone near him saw them online, and had some special words with young Ensign OUSooner.

Ah yes... never to soon to learn about BlueFalconry and the ever present dangers of camera phones.

Yeah I always assumed that camera phones would result in a slap on the wrist. Whoever the vigilante was that uploaded those photos jumped to some conclusions without asking to clarify first...I hope he apologized for nearly destroying what you've worked for.

I edited the post to remove his name and identifying information. Just like the Lead Ensign, there is no need to make his name any more public than it already is.

If anybody has any heartache about why we do not need to post his name, feel free to PM me.

Ok, bout that time. Can I be added to the PNA. I need to read this

In reference to re-designating, usually the discussion is based around SNA/SNFO. If it were to happen at OCS, it seems the general consensus is that SNA/SNFO might go home, or possibly go SWO. Any first hand experience on SWOs going SNFO or SNA?

I guess if you had passed the ASTB and had a completed flight physical, it could happen.

BTW, those aren't easy hurdles...

Thanks for the insight, that's interesting. As I move forward with applying for SWO, the thought of the redes. came to me. I have taken and passed the ASTB and have a N3M PQ when I applied for Pilot/NFO. It's something to keep in the back of my head and not hurt to set myself up for later, but not likely, I understand. Weirder things have happened I suppose. However, since I aged-out as a non-prior, that might not even be a possibility for me at that point, unless being technically active duty in OCS changes anything regarding age.

A little under a year ago they nailed so many SNA/SNFOs that they were offering aviation slots to SWO candidates. They approached my someone I know (who has glasses) and told her they were willing to go as far as a waiver for that if necessary. She knew aviation wasn't for her and stuck with SWO.

Whats wrong with taking pics in flight during the solo? Is it classified somehow? I see a whole bunch of people on facebook posting pics of themselves in flight suits and on training flights.

Camera use in the cockpit has been a contributing factor to several mishaps over the years and their use in flight is usually covered in wing or squadron SOP. BL: There are rules and restrictions on when and how they can be used in order to minimize risk.

To add on, TW-5 has a specific blurb about ANY camera use in the cockpit (unless approved). Why? Because a division of 4 T-34s made a mess of things many years ago, and the rule has been around ever since. Other Wings are a little more lax.

Banner posted at the NAVSTA Rota, Spain Officers' Club the evening of the CVW-11 hosted "Blackshoe Appreciation Night" party at the end of the USS AMERICA deployment to the Med in 1979:

"NO ONE EVER FLUNKED OUT OF BLACKSHOE SCHOOL AND HAD TO BECOME AN AVIATOR. ~ WILL ROGERS"

Well, crap…he party went downhill pretty fast…but goddam, it was beautiful! ;)

Good point. I can imagine a bunch of SNA/SNFO more worried about taking cool facebook pics than flying.

In some OCS classes they have converted SWO to aviators. If they havent taken the ASTB they are allowed to take it at OCS along with flight physical. In my class they converted every single SWO to aviators. But this only happens needs of the Navy wise so I doubt you can just put in a special request chit to switch. They were all approached by class officers who presented the offer to them.

I'm not doubting the veracity of your post but I think its circumstances are pretty rare. It is not the norm to get redesignated from SWO to aviation, so don't accept an OCS spot of SWO hoping to get transferred to aviation. This post almost makes it sounds like a gamble worth taking.

There was more than one designated SWO officer candidate in my class who asked about aviation and they were giving an emphatic "F*** No. You will do the job you signed up for."

If you are going into OCS with the mindset that you only want SNA or SNFO, don't go to OCS unless that is going to be your designator.
