let me help with you this since you don't seem to be getting it.... Allow me to use A4s font for you:

and the full quote, LSO is:
"For a handful of detainees cleared for transfer, there was scant evidence of any involvement with terrorist groups, the report says. Most were low-level fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda or other groups in Afghanistan"

What part of "most were low level fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda" are you okay with? That's the point you can't get beyond yourself to see. Johnny Spann's wife probably doesn't care that it was just a bunch of rag tag low level fighters at the prison uprising where her husband was murdered.

And pilot_man, I must have slept in on political indoctrination day in the HT's, where they weeded out different viewpoints and handed out the kool-aid; that must have been a VT thing. These wings mean I'm qualified to fly a naval aircraft in some of the same shitty skies you've been in. And from where I'm sitting your comments are hilariously full of fail.

Before I'd get upset, I'd want to know what the facility is actually being built/used for.
I heard it's outrageous because Fox and Friends told me it is.
It's not being used for anything but detainees. And I'm pissed, but not because Fox and Friends told me so. I'm pissed because I am capable of idependent thought, rather than just parroting talking points... But since you mentioned it - yes, Fox News reported on it first. However, it's well reported that they spent $750K on a soccer field, solely for detainees.

And I'm not the only one that's pissed... At least one congressman is as well... Oh wait, he's a Republican. He's not supposed to do any talking, while he's sitting in the back seat...

Fuck the detainees. They get three hots and a cot, and a whole lot more from what I understand.

Whatever Officer approved this needs to have his priority and head examined.

And he needs to go to the Yuma BOQ and BEQ and explain to people why this was more important than air conditioning that works.

So what's your point, that grief is a carte blanche to play fast and loose with how we treat people? That it doesn't make a difference whether or not they were involved in the death of Americans?
If the Marine Corps pilot thing doesn't work out, you've got a great future in "putting words in people's mouths to further your own agenda." I suggest politics.

The Geneva Convention says that they are to be provided food, medical care, free exercise of religion, exercise space, access to the outdoors, etc... No where in the Geneva Convention does it say that providing new and upgraded facilities are required.

So, if you had not decided to "read into" my post - go tell someone who lost a loved one that $750K is better spent on detainees getting a new soccer field (even though we've already been abiding by the Geneva Convention), rather than cleaning the mold out of military housing in Hampton Roads, paying for rennovations to the Yuma BOQ (or at least partially pay), help defray the cost of TriCare so retirees aren't forced to, etc... And you can tell me all the shit in the world about "different pots" - I probably know more about it than you, seeing as how I have engaged in the contracting process (as recently as last week).

My point is this (and I'm curious how you're going to try and spin it): $750K spent on detainees, for something that goes above and beyond the Geneva Convention, during this time of "fiscal restraint" is disgusting, considering the facilities that we (as law abiding citizens and members of the military) operate in/out of - have needed rennovation for at least a decade or more.

Treating POWs poorly is a great way to engender resentment. Treating them well is a great way to get intelligence and maybe a better attitude about the US if and when they're released.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've never read "The Arab Mind."

I read both it and The Jewish Mind and found them both to be racist screeds.

That's all I was asking...something cited. It's not the first time someone has done a drive by forum posting (I'm speaking generally, not specifically Fog) about how irate they were about something that may or may not have been correct info (note: the use of the word correct versus true).

Of course. I'm not surprised.

A Hungarian born, naturalized US Citizen (and cultural anthropologist) that taught at the Hebrew University (as well as Columbia, Princeton, NYU and others), organized a research project for the UN on Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, and was married to a Palestinian clearly had as his goal in life to write a "racist screed." Or maybe you're just parroting the New Yorker, UCLA, and others who disliked the fact that the Bush Administration saw value in the book. After all, everything associated with the Bush Administration is racist and evil...

Is the book narrow minded? Yes. Are there some parts of the book that are probably racist? Yes. Are parts of it outdated? Likely. Does it do a better job of explaining relationship between family, tribe, country and religion than most any other book out there? I'd say so. But then again, I'm a Libertarian - so by your definition, I'm probably racist too...

HOLY SHIT - are you really trying to tell us that NOT building this soccer field would be poor treatment?

Pilot_man, let's be honest. What do you really know about the detainees actually at Guantanamo? How many of those "bad dudes" you've seen in theater ended up in Gitmo? Because the problem set we're dealing with are not the folks we've captured in the last few years after we've largely figured out our intelligence and detainee processes. The problem set are folks captured in the first few years of the GWOT, based on weak evidence, and who, 10 years later, we still shamefully haven't figured out what to do with.

The Guantanamo Review Task force reviewed all the intelligence, and recommended 36 be prosecuted, 48 be detained indefinitely under the laws of war for affiliation with Al-Qaeda, and 126 be released or transferred. That is a damn broad category to dismiss under the label of "terrorist" - and the full quote, LSO is:
"For a handful of detainees cleared for transfer, there was scant evidence of any involvement with terrorist groups, the report says. Most were low-level fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda or other groups in Afghanistan"

I really don't get what you're getting at here. Are you saying that because these guys weren't attacking US civilians, and we can't call them terrorist, then they deserve the $750,000 complex? The whole point is that they are bad guys no matter what you call them, and we as a military and country have better things we could be spending the money on. All they need is a dirt field and a fence. What they do inside of that I don't care about.

You want to be honest MMX, then let's be honest. I know plenty about the dudes being sent off to GTMO. I know the smell of shit and puke on their dirty ass clothes. I've seen evil in their beady eyes. And, I've seen the intelligence on them. How about you now? What have you seen first hand? Anything? This is what gets me all pissed off about you and Uncle Brett has to step in and tell me to relax (which is fine and thank you Brett.) You act like we are off rounding up the Afghan National Boys Choir and sending them off to Cuba. The guys that get picked up and sent to GTMO deserve it. The review doesn't exonerate those that it recommended for release.

As far as the filter comment goes, I'm pretty sure it's an advanced thing. Between you, Squorch2, and Otto I can tell that some advances do a better job than others. ;)

Whoa now... I went through the same advanced they did... Let's just say that those who haven't done a MEU deployment is part of the problem. Oh wait... That eliminates you. Ok, ok... How 'bout those that haven't done a MEU deployment and aren't TACAIR guys... Oh wait, that leaves out LSO, MB and helolumpy...

How 'bout we just agree that there's no hope for some??
