Myth: The PS3 is leaps and bounds ahead of the 360

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-348-1.htm
that article is subjective, one mans opinion. no shіt XBox online and amount of games available for the XBox360 will be better than PS3, it's been out a year longer ... and hell, i could easily write an article and fill it full of "Without getting into too many details" and "I can’t get into details" bullshіt. no doubt it wouldn't be too hard to find articles that lean towards PS3 being the next best thing to indoor shіtters. there's fanbois on both sides.

anyways, $599 is a step price to pay for a PS3, hard to justify, but in order to play HD-DVDs on XBox 360, you have to pay an extra 200 bucks, so essentially you're still paying nearly 600 bucks for the XBox if you want the gouche gear. the PS3 Blueray supports up to 1080p while XBox360 HD-DVD supports up to 1080i ... not much of a difference unless you are watching a big-screen HDTV inside of 7 or 8 feet.

i haven't owned a gaming console since playstation 1, but i'm in the market. i'm leaning towards XBox360 & the HD-DVD add-on, but i can't stand giving anymore money to Bill Gates, so i'm torn ...

Meh. I don't give a **** about the HD DVD player, so I'm going with the XBox because it doesn't force me to pay for something I don't want.

Well I'm not getting either system myself. I may get a Wii for a cheap thrill, but I'm investing my money on a powerful gaming PC.

You mean blowing your money. That's not an investment ;) Speaking of, I need to get myself a new video card.

Let's not get into video cards and/or building computers. That's a LONG conversation during which I actually might know what I'm talking about.:D

But that gaming rig won't be too easy to tote around on deployment! That's why PS and XBOX/2 have been so popular (with military personnel), it doesn't hit too hard into what you can reasonably take with you underway/on deployment/det. From friends that went to other communities (subs/swo) and of course the tacair/helo bubbas that go to the boat, they all get pretty creative in setting up shipboard lans for competing on xbox. I was pretty blown away to hear that there were some serious prizes onboard KHK for xbox HALO winners.

Now, I just need to decide what type of laptop to get to replace my ancient Inspiron 8200... already have the Xbox 360! :D

I'm slowly beginning to hate console gaming and the beast it has become. On the other hand, I've grown to like PC gaming. My DS will carry me through deployment. For now, I have 17 months of college left and I need a serious workstation. I haven't bought a new PC in almost 10 years and the PC I have now isn't worth investing anymore money into. Plus, I'm not a fan of laptops at all. With my "spare no expense" PC budget, what I have picked out makes the PS3 look dated.

This is a good point. At least with a PC, you can customize what you want based on your needs. That is also why I like building my own PC. I can spend about 50-75% of the money it would take to buy an equivalent system and put in the graphics card that I want and processor I want instead of maybe the 2-3 choices I get to pick between on the manufacturer's website...like dell and gateway etc. This also allows me more leeway when picking specific setups that I like such as AMD instead of Intel, GEforce instead of Radeon, SATA instead of regular old IDE etc etc ad infinitum

although nowadays there is a caveat. Nowadays gaming systems are far surpassing PC's gaming abilities very quickly with dual processors gigs and gigs of RAM and onboard cards.

If you buy a laptop, get a Macbook. I wouldn't own a PC at all if it weren't for the lack of games on Mac.

While you can build a more powerful computer, the fact of the matter is, a console game will be consistent. It will work, and it will look like it was designed to look. This is not the case with PC games. Run it on something not up to the highest specs, and you lose graphical capabilities, speed, etc etc.
