@Grizzley...VT7 just sent three guys to -129 in the past two wingings. Before that there were a few others from 7 & 9. I know a couple dudes in Kville that just got picked up there too. I think RLSO nailed it with "the RAG is full"

No, he doesn't need to suck it up. For as long as I remember, the #1 guy in flight school gets his #1 pick. There's nothing wrong with asking the question without wanking. If the guy worked his ass off and was expecting his #1 choice, then he deserves an answer. Will this change the fact that he got his #2 choice, maybe not, but at least he'll get an answer then he can move on.

I can't speak to the jet world, but in the Primary world, #1 in your squadron =/= #1 in flight school. Maybe Grizzly was #1 overall, but I've known several guys that were #1 in their wing who weren't #1 overall that week, so they weren't considered guaranteed their first choice.

As a guy who put VAQ-129 Prowlers as #1 on his wish list, and didn't get it.......just go drink it off man. I don't want to step on toes here, since the Growler does an important and also cool mission........but you are going to get to do a lot of really cool stuff that your -129 buddies aren't going to. Up on your menu at 106, in no particular order, will be section low levels (yeah I know 129 prob does that one too), live day, shooting the gun several times, solo air to air stuff, the full BFM and SEM syllabus, not to mention that you are doing about 2/3 of the flights just by your lonesome. It only gets cooler in the fleet. If you still think it sucks in 10 months or whenever you are done, look me up......I'll buy you a round out of pity, because if you still feel that way at that point, you live a horrible existence of suck. Seriously, it is going to be awesome.

I agree with MIDNJAC, Grizzly will be just as happy if not worlds happier flying in the VFA world. We will accept him with open arms.

I was just pointing out that for some reason this guy wanted nothing more than VAQ and the guy telling him to suck it up and quit being such a bitch is from the platform he dreamed of. Real supportive of you.

Grizzly, congrats on your #1 and selecting.

Although I can't imagine how disappointing it is, it sounds like you're in a great squadron and you're going to have a lot of fun. Blow some stuff up for people like me, who are still years away from primary and would kill to be in your position right now. :p

IMO, if he has top grades, selected VAQ and got Helos or VP, he'd have a legit gripe. Getting VFA vice VAQ, either of which most SNAs would die for... yeah, smile and suck it up. You'll be glad you did!;)

Thanks all, I guess life living doesn't get much better than living in a place where people go to vacation.

Stucon officer was more than happy to explain parts in detail of NSS and some selection factors. There were some guys with higher composite scores out of Kville than me who put Whidbey as number 1. So between that and quality spread are probably main reasons I got my second choice.

Well, VA Beach and the "Great NW" are both great vacation spots, so it was a win win situation for you.:D

Selections out of K-rock were crazy competitive last week, 4 guys made commodores list, and there were I think 6 guys looking for VAQ of which 3 got it, 3 didn't, basically don't feel bad. That being said I feel for ya and the other guys that didn't get what they wanted, but it should be a blast either way!

perhaps an ignorant question, but dies anyone select for C-20/21's or the other gulfstreams or is that more of a reserve function, etc. just not sure how they are worked into Naval Aviation Pipelines. Of course I hear a lot about the mainstream aircraft, just curious as to who ends up in the one-offs
