It seems pilots don't go back often. Is it by choice or due to the nature of the job? If wanted, can a pilot qual yearly?
It's the nature of the job. You'll go to the pistol range when you have to. When do you, your first thought will be, "Fuck me, didn't I just do this (1,2,3 years ago)? Why do I have to go again? This is a complete waste of my time."

Your weapon is your airplane.

I'm a Marine, and was just curious how it worked on the Corps side of the house!

Even though I was an air contract at TBS, I put out the best I can and will graduate at the top third of my class here in a couple weeks. I know it doesn't matter as an aspiring aviator and "chest candy" doesn't matter, but its one of those OCD things I want to have a go at again! I am glad to hear pilots will qualify on the pistol. Thanks gentlemen!

Don't worry, Pensacola will leach the motard ground TBS crap out of you. Either that or you'll attrite- either by choice, or because you just don't get it. Don't be that guy.

And before you say, "But, but, but... I'm *not* being that guy- I just want to go to the range, and be a black belt, and (insert whatever else the grunts do here)" Don't- because that's what that guy says.

Be good at flying, have a good bar game, and be a good dude. That's what you need to worry about. Trust everyone with wings when they say that you'll have enough to worry about where having to go to the pistol range will just be an unwelcome distraction.

Wow your armorer sucks! I was a one man show in our arms room but I did my best to keep our weapons/optics in good shape. We got the M4 mod about a year before I left, man was I pissed when we did a spur ride and my troop ran the rifle lane. All of our M4s came back with sandbag plastic and dirt stuck to the brand new barrels from soldiers resting them on the bags.
Armorer? LMAO What the heck is that? In the guard, our weapons were sent to a reset unit upon return from deployment. I swear they take all of the guns, dismantle them, throw the parts in a bin, let some 5 year olds play with all of the parts (with a hammer and screw driver), and then put them back together. They are then re-issued to what ever unit is next in line.

First range period after deployment and its like randomly being issued a used car off of the lot. Sadly sometimes aircraft are treated almost the same way.
