Hey all,

I will be nearing the end of my commitment in a couple of years and I do have a lot of interest in the Majors. Unfortunately, I was less disciplined in my younger days.

-I had about 7 or so speeding tickets all from 2011 and earlier.

-I got arrested and thrown in the drunk tank for a night in college (2007) with a minor consumption charge. As it was my first offense and I complied with the courts' programs, everything was dismissed. They were not expunged, though.

Before I post flight hours and stats and other info, I'd like to know if this is this a show stopper or if I still have a chance. Also, any guidance on how to handle this when applying will be helpful. I know I was pretty stupid back in the day.

Thanks in advance.

I can't say for sure since I am not current on hiring. My guess is you could sell it. If not, how do you feel about something less than the big 4 or 5 for a couple years? Not saying a regional necessarily, but something like Omni, Polar, etc. for the big iron, or fractional bizjet flying? Spend a couple years in purgatory to put some more time behind the alcohol charge.

DUIs aren't show stoppers for the majors (especially those 10+ years old) I doubt a 10 year old public intox would be.

If you're worried you might have hosed yourself for the majors you can always go to an AA Wholly Owned Regional with a contractual flow and keep applying everywhere else while you wait for your # to come up.

When the time comes, work with one of the hiring prep companies to go over your past and help you navigate how to list your issues on the apps and address them in the interview.

I concur with @wink and @zippy that your military experience and the fact this was over 10 years ago during college should be a good way to sell it and explain if ever asked. Get the application in early, and be prepared to answer when asked about it. If it isn't expunged (and even if it was) I wouldn't be surprised if HR finds it when doing the background investigations... so, since the majors are big on integrity and trustworthiness, make sure you don't fail to disclose as appropriate. Had a guy in my hire class that failed to disclose something, and when signing HR paperwork he brought up his missing item. He got put in limbo for a month while management decided whether to hire him or not, they decided to hire him since he self disclosed. Think Delta last year (second hand info, someone correct me if I am wrong) was getting a lot of hires showing up to interviews and at the last minute disclosing items, that didn't go over too well.

I think the history makes your application a less strong to HR, but you won't ever know unless you apply. Best of luck.
