OCS Qualifications

It does not tell the difference between the two. It states that to get the commission you have to be younger than 42. It says for the Surface Warfare Information Warfare option I must be 35. I'm trying to find out what the difference is because I assumed, and justifiably, that I would have to get my IW device regardless of age if I got my commission in that field.

Yes, it does. Look:

"
Appointment
Active Component:
  • Direct Accession: Ensign, USN, Special Duty Officer (Cryptologic Warfare), designator 1810.
  • Information Warfare Option: Ensign, USN, Surface Warfare Officer Student, Designator 1160, Additional Qualification Designator (AQD) "LOC". The officer will be assigned to Division Officer Afloat duties and qualify as a Surface Warfare Officer. Officers will be redesignated to 1810 without board action (WOBA) per MILPERSMAN 1212-060."
SWO-CW: You start your career as a SWO for a few years. Get qualified/get your SWO pin and then re-designate to CW. Hence why it's called a SWO-option.
CW (regular): You become a CW immediately.

Thanks, that is the part of question but I think your wordage was a little more educating than the actual wording. Thanks again for all of the help.
