I've been exploring new options since the "PRK last minute questions" thread, I've found a world class doctor who was more than happy to answer any and all questions I had. Furthermore, I'm in the process of scheduling LASEK this winter. However, since my eyesight is so bad and I have slight lattyce degeneration and a small atrophic hole in the retina of my left eye, my LASEK doc suggested that I have some laser therapy from a retinal specialist to plug up the atrophic hole. I've looked through the NOMI website on the same page as all the refractive surgery waiver info., but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on this laser therapy procedure. I'm in NROTC, but my aviation LT is on leave this week, and I was wondering what I should do / who I should call at NOMI etc. to make sure 1)that this therapy is acceptable (i.e. won't be a red flag later on), 2) to see if a waiver is even necessary for this and 3) to better understand the process on what I need for this waiver.

I already have my CO's and LT's permission for the LASEK, but I'm trying to figure out who to contact for this retinal laser therapy since my new doc just advised it and my laser therapy is in the next week. Thanks if anyone has any info.

flyboy,

Good questions here. I would suggest, instead, that you call the folks at Balboa who actually do the PRK surgery. It is late Friday night and I am well into my second beer....if I were at work, I could post the numbers. PM me with your .navy.mil address and I will look up the numbers tomorrow and send them to you.

I know all the docs who do PRK (they used my lab for initial testing or PRK v aviators), and while I am sure they could answer your questions, I am not sure if they read this board.
I also know most of the docs at NOMI.......since I will be there Monday, I will post the question to them.
