Night Vision Pen

Thanks, used it last night for my first nvg flight in the -60. Worked great! Besides the usual writing, it works great for reading checklists and identifying switches.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

nittany03, you are the first to mention any issue with traps and the 9G/NVP combo is pretty popular. Perhaps it would be worth placing the pen somewhere else during the trap for your situation.

Brett327 I am sorry it isn't to your liking. The features were built based upon what I and several other NSAWC staff members of all platforms wanted. It isn't for everyone, but a vast majority of users do find it to be a better option compared to previous gear: fingerlights, lip lights, and chem lights.

Turn your kneeboard around where the spring clip is on the bottom. That way you can fold the paper down vice up and the pen pocket will be to the rear. I do that with mine, I prefer how it keeps the paper better organized.

Then the pen gets launched into your lap during the cat stroke. Although I guess that's better than it ending up down by the pedals.

It's not that I don't like it, it's just not applicable/necessary in my cockpit (I don't use finger lights, lip lights or chem lights either). Seems like most of the proponents are helo guys, so if it works for them - that's great. Can I ask how many you had made and what percentage you've sold thus far and whether the demand/profit warrants a second production run? I understand if you don't want to divulge those specifics of your business, but it does interest me.

I haven't found that to be an issue. If anything, they're on the dim side, IMO.

I don't want to go into too many details, but I have sold several hundred up to this point and only one person has ever asked for their money back. Some have broke and been replaced, but not many - less than 15. Sales are slow, but relatively steady. Profitability is enough to keep it going. Exposure is the key - most everyone seems to love it, but so few know it exists they aren't even looking for it. Advertising exposure costs more than what is available to me. I'm only willing to gamble so much. I created the NVP because I truly feel it is a superior product to those other things and as a challenge to myself, but it has always been more of a hobby than my future.

Christmas orders seem to be coming in so don't forget to put the NVP on your Christmas list.

In other news, VMM-264 just made a squadron purchase of 35 Night Vision Pens!

Nice! Couple of us bought them while in afg. Great piece of gear. Now all you need to do is get with a motivator at MAWTS and you'll have your own paragraph in an SOP. ;)

Out of curiosity is the NVG pen still in production? Website is down or the domain sold. This pen might be a good solution to current H-1 upgrade community, unable to use lip lights on Thales OTO helmets, or for tactical reasons.
