NA/NFO platform qualifications?

I am sure if I did an extensive search on this site, I could find the information spread out among different threads. Maybe this will just be a way to combine it into one single thread.

If any of you fleet guys have time, would you elaborate on qualifications that you should have prior to leaving your first fleet tour? Specifics on what it takes to get the appropriate PQS (for lack of a better term), and an expected timeline from the day you show up to your first tour.

Hope this makes sense, otherwise, I will rephrase the question.

Thanks.

Well, it's going to be different for every platform, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that not getting your Mission Commander qual during your first tour will pretty much end your career as an aviator. Now, there may be variations in nomenclature among the different non-TACAIR communities, but you get the point. For the Prowler, you generally need a minimum of 500 hours in type, completion of the various ACTC requirements, and, of course, the confidence of your CO. Average time to complete is probably 18-24 months. There are myriad other quals you can get and that is, of course, going to vary by platform(section/division lead, LAT instructor, BFM instructor, etc). NATOPS instructor is probably universal and a good one to pick up if you can, but it will all depend on your squadron, timing, and other factors.

Assitant Natops Instructor or Natops Instructor, if you can get it is always good. For helos, you'll get your HAC papers or lose your flight status and no longer be 131x. ACTC seems to be pretty universal now, so Level 300 is probably expected, which goes along w/ what Brett said about Mission Commander qualed.

Nice to haves:
-NVG instructor/Night Systems Instructor (kind of depends on the community).
-FCP (this is a big one for my community. A lot of people don't want it, but now that every hour has to go towards an X, being a FCP is great because it's free flight time. Plus I don't know how many AOMs and/or Training I got out of thanks to an FCF).
-Random assortment of ground quals (Safe for flight, weight & balance, Laser PM, AAE, etc).

On the green side...

The generally accepted definition of "MOS Credibility" is Division Lead and Terrain Flight Instructor, at least in the Phrog community. Anything else is gravy. BEWARE of the random field grade who checks in as a section lead! He WILL try to kill you...
