Finally got the AR-15 a big brother. Going to need to find a place to do some long-range shooting, but first I need to get some decent glass. Leaning towards a Nightforce NXS with a MOAR reticle. The Swarovski Z8i looks nice, but then I'd have an AR-15 with a scope in MOA and an AR-10 with a scope in mils. Meh to that.

I have a NF 4-16 ATACR (mine is in mils) on my bolt gun and I've been very impressed. I have an older NF 3.5-15 NXS F1 on my SR-25, and it's a nice scope, but the ATACR is lighter, shorter, and at least as clear. I highly recommend. You can get a decent rebate off of MAP through their military pricing, as well (about $400-500).

Hrm. Worth looking at. MAP? That discount looks like it would bring the ATACR down into the price point of an NXS anyway.

So I had to go to the NF website... I didn't realize they still made the NXS. Personally, I'm a FFP snob and NF doesn't make a NXS F1 anymore, which is why I was mentioning the ATACR. If SFP is okay with you, then I can understand going with the NXS. Either way, I'd still try and do the .mil pricing through NF to knock even more money of the NXS.

MAP is Minimum Advertised Price. It's possible to get a new NF scope for less than MAP, but generally it's not that much lower and if NF finds out, they get cranky at the retailer. The .mil pricing list will show every single product with a reduced price off of MAP. All you have to do is email NF and they'll send it. I emailed from my NMCI account and it made it even simpler.

Have you just been using standard flat spray paints on your rifles?

Yup. Just using khaki, sand, Dark Earth (I think that's what they call it) and occasionally forest green (again, something like that). I think it's Rustolem, but can't remember. It's whatever Walmart sells. Works great, and if you apply it in the sun, it dries immediately. It will be soft for a few days, but usable.

I've only painted that rifle and another Colt lower (pictured above), but I enjoy the character...plus it actually makes the gun less hot to the touch when it sits in the FL sun.
