losing inches fast

there is a guy in my work center needs to lose 2 inches to pass the body fat test and he only has a week, I told time to do a lot of running with a trash bag around his stomach. I was thinking maybe you guys have some advice on ways to lose inches fast, and please dont say a healthy diet and exercise all year round, that ship has sailed for this guy, we are looking for a quick fix and then ill work with him on a good exercise regiment.

Well the trashbag isn't really going to do anything other than remove water. I'd say doing that kind of cutting that far in advance (7 days) is dangerous. I've done it for a wrestling tourny, and while I am no wrestler (though I am sure some here are, and could explain it better)... I'd say doing that cutting 7 days in advance is a horrible idea. His best bet is a extremely reduced calorie diet, 500-1000 calories a day. Drink fluids and continue to excercise up to a day or two before the weigh in. Then continue the same, but reduce fluid intake to ditch some of the water weight. None of this is good on your body, and I would recommend him asking for a delay in the weigh in if possible.

The trash bag idea won't work and may be dangerous. Body suits, saran wrap......all that junk will cause his body to retain heat when exercising with little way to vent that heat. Bad deal; don't do it.

I don't think there is a way to (safely) lose two inches of waistline in a week.

While I sincerely applaud your efforts in helping a shipmate get within standards, based upon your idea of the trash bag, you are not the one to 'work with him on a good exercise regiment'. He needs to be taken to a good, qualified, exercise specialist.

IF he really works his butt off and cuts down his food intake (especially carbohydrates since they require more water to process...and water retention will cause bloating to a certain degree) he might lose enough for the PRT tape guy to be generous with their measurement.

Long, easy PT sessions, i.e. 2 hours on the bike or rowing machine, heart rate 130-150, every day. He'll burn well over 1000 calories. Eat fruits and veggies to fill him up without the calories. Starve the last day, and do the trash bag thing.

I would focus more on doing well on the PRT, as I believe if you fail the height/weight/ropenchoke if you score an excellent medium or above you're fine. In all seriousness athletes have died doing the trashbag thing, and I think one actor did? Just have some intense PT as I don't think there is a safe way at all to lose that much in that little time.

This is probably his only answer at this point, minus the trashbag idea. If he doesn't eat, his body will start conserving energy and he won't actually lose much weight. If his metabolism is up (like it would be after this type of workout), and he's eating good food that's high in volume but low in calorie density, he may shed a little weight. If you want to get more complicated, you might take a look at the Zone diet and see if that might not help--it's supposed to really be good at keeping your blood sugar at the right level all day long, while still reducing body fat. I sincerely doubt he'll be able to lose the weight in the time remaining, though.

Healthy weight loss is 1 to 3 pounds per week. For guys, an 8 to 10 pound weight loss will correspond to a loss of about 1 inch around their midsection. Using an average of 2 pounds loss per week, it should take 3 to 4 weeks to lose 1 inch; 6 to 8 to lose 2 inches.

I googled it and I read that preparation h will shrink you midsection but only for like a day, he only needs it for the weight in so that will work, can anybody confirm or deny think to be true. It said that army recruiters use preparation h to get recruits in to boot camp. let me know what you guys think before i grease this guy and make him stink like old people.

Isn't that stuff for your a$$? Do they say to rub it all over your stomach? Im really suspicious about how the hell some a$$ cream is going to take off inches. This sounds nuts ...

Is that what they mean by Army Strong then?

To be replaced by...an Army of one...and a half.

That actually does work, as well as body wraps at beauty salons, but that will only buy him another 1/2 inch. He could try the cabbage soup diet for a week, cut water for the last 24 hours, and try the preparation h. That may buy him close to 2 inches, but honestly it depends much more on who is taping him and if they are willing to pull the tape an extra 1/2 inch.

I suspect it would be more than that..

I won't go into a diatribe about how the rope and choke is NOT accurate, but it's the way it is..
