    Affirm.

But out of all other places to live, it isn't THAT bad. If you're going to compare it to the garden of eden, what's the point in the conversation?

I'm especially surprised to hear this negative Corpus talk from a guy that like me, has had the PLEASURE of living in ENID, AMERICA for 6 months.

I don't know about you, but showing up in Corpus was delightful after being in Enid. It's nice not having to take a 2 hour jaunt to be around women that aren't missing teeth for Christ sakes.

    #1 reason to avoid Corpus-

The Manatee is from there, her sister lives there, her cousins live there.

Do YOU want a Manatee in YOUR life?

Corpus sucks much balls as a single guy.

Unless you like BMWs. And that ain't a car.

Well said. Corpus had its moments but they were few and far in between. The place has so much potential but they blow it away. I spent 13 months there and that was 13 months too long. Austin is great, but again the drive (like everything else down there) is shitty. The whole city reeks of g-h-e-t-t-o.

Where do folks live who go to Kingsville? My biggest worry is schools and from the looks of it, most of them suck ass. I was in Corpus in 94-95 and parts of it sucked but it has gotten worse. Ghetto is a good way to describe it.

    Studs = Kingsville
IPs = Corpus, all over the town from what I've heard. Even heard some live on the Island, but I did that drive when I first selected for a few weeks and no thank you.

From what I've heard, Flour Bluff HS is actually really good. Don't take my word for it, just what I've heard from various IPs. It's usually one of the first things out of an IP's mouth who has a kid there and overhears a student Corpus-bashing conversation.

Flour Bluff, seriously?! I would take the Island over the Bluff any day. Though if you have kids (we don't) you might not want to live on the island because it is mostly students and retirees. We had ONE trick or treater on Halloween. We never see kids out playing here. But maybe that's just because they are all inside playing video games. I agree with Godspeed though that Corpus is not all that bad. Don't get me wrong, it sucks hard compared to Seattle (home for me) but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as bad as the horror stories I heard before having to move here. But I'm happily married and always have a playmate so it might be a different story for a single guy.

Island kids go to Flour Bluff schools. No schools (save private) on the island.

I thought I'd take a drive today from my apartment out on the Island, down past Mustang, to Port A, and back through Corpus and back out onto the Island. Definitely didn't know that line across the bay on my GPS was a FERRY. Didn't want to pay the cash so I drove back the way I came.

Port A looks semi-nice. Anyone experienced the restaurants/bars out there?

I usually cycle up to the ferry and back. Port A is fun. Way better than Padre.

I've also heard the Bluff school district is good.

So I'm still not clear - where do all the grown-ups live in Corpus? I'm not going to be in the market for BMW's or cougars (Mrs Fester is all the cougar I can handle). I don't suppose there's a nice walking-around neighborhood like Ghent or the Gaslamp or anything in CC?

There are really nice homes in almost any section (I did say almost), but I think you'd probably prefer the south end of town on/ near Yorktown and Saratoga road. One of the neighborhoods is called Kings Crossing but I've seen a few different homes around there and you may not get a huge yard (probably a blessing with the summer we've been having) but the homes are new very nice and usually on the cheaper side and biggest reason of all, the neighborhood is clean and nice as well.

Going back for a minute, yes I said Flour Bluff schools are good. I had the same reaction but was countered by a few different IPs who specifically chose where to live just so their kids could go there and apparently it's one of the best schools in the state let alone area (grammar through high school).

Flour Bluff schools are, in my experience, top notch. To boot, your kids get to go there if you live on the Island.

Most "adults" live in Southside, although I don't know that there's much of anywhere I'd really "walk around" in Corpus. I mean, the Island is safe, but there's not much in walking distance. Everywhere else is either stupidly hot or seedy.

You could always live next to the late Freddy Fender and enjoy a nice dip in his guitar shaped pool...

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...74155,-97.39242&spn=0.00262,0.003803&t=h&z=18

I was on a RI flight in the GCA box and my instructor got really bored so he drew me a map so I could find it when we were on final. I still got that map around here somewhere...

Edit: I did find the map, and I scanned it ... bored on this labor day...
