Would anyone be able to tell me about the leave and liberty policies at nas pcola during API and during A- pool time? I have family about 350 miles away that I'd like to be able to visit somewhat regularly.... If possible. Also, How much time should I expect to be in Pensacola before moving on to primary? Thanks in advance. Much appreciated!
Greater than 300 miles needs an out of bounds chit approved by the CoC. Usually easy to get on a three day weekend or better and it won't burn your leave. I wouldn't think that you would be able to make it home every weekend unless you worked out a special circumstance with Flight Management. Average wait time to get through API can vary depending on A-pool size, time to get through IFS, time to class up, and if you make it through without rolling back. I made it through as fast as possible and it took me 3 months (A-pool, IFS, one week wait, API, immediate class up at Whiting). YMMV...
Dude, study and enjoy the beach. Go see the fam if you can on a 72 or 96 or whatever but dont waste everyone's time or be 'that guy' by filing a leave chit every other weekend to drive home.
How long it takes just totally depends on how many people check in when you do and if you need IFS. I got here first week of October and I am hopefully finishing IFS tomorrow (weather dependent).
Along those same lines, what about a trip that would take you farther? Right now it looks like I will graduate OCS in July. I have my sister's wedding in Washington state in October. I figure by that time I'll be in primary. For a Saturday wedding is that possible? I'm supposed to be a groomsman but not sure if I should commit to that quite yet.
Anything is possible, but you won't now until you check into Primary and see where you are in the pipeline. You'll have to work through STUCON at your squadron, but I've seen guys get leave for a Sat/Sun trip to a wedding before, just don't plan on flying out until AFTER you've done your required events on Friday.
Perhaps, but I was referring to going home for the hell of it. If there's something else going on, then by all means speak to flight management and work something out.
Weddings are usually something you can get Leave for. Don't expect more than a weekend. I left Friday afternoon (after a morning flight), and got back Sunday night (flight on Monday? Yup).
I'd agree....a wedding shouldn't be too much of an issue. That was pretty common when I was in the VT's and it normally wasn't a problem. The thing that may raise some eyebrows is if you are asking for out of bounds chits weekend after weekend to go visit the family. I don't think you will want to do that anyway once you get there, but a few times here and there shouldn't cause trouble. Obviously timing is important, as taking leave/driving an entire weekend is going to be a lot better when you are just in A-pool or something, rather than when they are trying to pump you through IFS or API. I'd say your chances of getting approved leave while actually in API are probably going to be limited. You'll be busy anyway though, if not in the books, then at least relaxing on the weekends over beers at the beach.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but wondering what the Leave policy is like once you are in Primary/Intermediate at NASP. In this case, possibly for my own wedding. Currently engaged trying to line up a wedding for the Saturday after Thanksgiving (hopefully we get a holiday break of some kind) - does anyone have any experience with requesting leaving from the training wings?
Up at Whiting, I havent' seen it being too much of a problem for you to request a Friday - Sunday for leave. Anything more than that might take a little extra work on your part. The best bet would be for you to plan on doing your wedding BEFORE you class up/check in to the TRAWING/VT. Once training has started, it seems to be a lot harder to find any time off. If that won't work for you, then I suggest lining up your wedding to coincide with a normal 72/96 liberty, such as Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, or Thanksgiving. It may be easier for you to add a day on to one of those holidays for you to have a semi-extended period of leave that won't put you behind your peers. I know someone who was married over their Thanksgiving break, and the CoC was pretty supportive. As usual, YMMV.
Thanks for the heads up - the Saturday after Thanksgiving is what we are looking at, so hopefully I run into a similarly supportive CoC and no scheduling conflicts. Unfortunately I'm still in IFS so I don't even know who to talk to or when would be an appropriate time to have a conversation.
Don't expect anything more then one fly day off- and that might be a battle depending on what part of the year it is. If you get it, don't expect your buddies in their training command to get it as well. A Sat on a holiday weekend should be ok though.
Thanks Zippy - does anyone know what the usual stand down period is for Thanksgiving at the training wings? My only Thanksgiving in the Navy I was in OCS and we had a full week off - I doubt its that generous down here. Is it Thursday to Sat or possibly longer?
