Lasik/SNA postop requirements

I was wondering if someone could help me out with a question. I had lasik about 6 months ago and I am finally due to make a lovely appearance at MEPS soon to qualify for SNA. My right eye is pretty much 20/15 but my left eye is sometimes 20/20 sometimes 20/25. I was wondering what is the rule if you are not perfect 20/20 after lasik? I know it's 20/40 correctable to 20/20 (without LASIK) but does this rule also include if you have had LASIK before?

Yes the 20/40 rule applies to LASIK participants. The rules get more lax after you wing. There is more to it than that 20/40 number though. The SPHERE and CYLINDER numbers matter as per the NAMI waiver guide so find that section (search this site) and take it with you to your appointment.

Thank you for the response. I should be good on the spheres and cylinders aspect. I do have another question and it might be stupid but if I do get 20/25, does MEPS have a phoropter there to see if they can get me to 20/20? I haven't heard anyone mention it.

one of the checks at MEPS is to determine you uncorrected vision and another is to make sure you can correct to 20/20, if your vision is not correctable to 20/20 then you are at an all stop for processing.

I know most people have glasses that will help them correct to 20/20 but in my case, I had lasik and my vision is about 20/25 in my left. So since I don't have glasses, im assuming they do have the equipment, phoropter, at MEPS to see if I can correct to 20/20.

Just curious, in Memphis' case where you are below 20/40 but over 20/20, I'm assuming you wear glasses/contacts? Are contacts proscribed for SNAs and SNFOs in training?

You will be issued glasses to wear while flying. Contacts are an option too but I believe you have to wear them for 30 days before you can start wearing them while you fly.
