Joint Spouse

I did a search and didn't find any similar threads; but does the Navy do joint spouse for mil-to-mil? I know it's needs of the service, but does the navy try to station married couples who are both Navy together?

PM me if you like my wife and I are both in the same RAG squadron. When we deploy we will have to be in separate airwings, but at least we are on the same base. Im not 100% but I don't think joint spouse applies to non mil-mil couples.

Here is the link for the instruction you seek:

Also, if you let the command know what you are trying to do, chances are they will do their best to help.

Yes the Navy does (TRY) to accomplish this, but of course nothing is guaranteed. My wife is an AF JAG stationed at Hurlburt Field, and I'm at Whiting. She was lucky to get her first duty assignment so close to me. However, it is definitely going to be much more difficult for the Navy and AF to place us together in the future.

PM me if you want. Been married mil-to-mil for about five years now. Been "co-located" the entire time. She's getting out this year. PM if you want some more insight.

I'm currently in SoCal and my wife is in Virginia. It doesn't always work out. But we should be together after we change duty stations this next time around. I've got a buddy who's been living away from his wife and kids for roughly 4 years. But I think he's more the exception than the rule.

And for the record, I believe "Co-Located" is within a 250 mile radius.

Here's an old thread:

Search for mil-to-mil, spouse colocation, or dual-mil. To answer your question, the Navy does "try" to station married couples who are both in the Navy together. Not an option to request while either of you are in a training pipeline.
There is no distance for co-location- could be same base, could be close bases (NAS Jax and Mayport), could be same coast. (Yes, I have heard a detailer say Washington DC and Norfolk are co-located)
My husband and I have been married 6 years, we are both P-3 pilots, currently both in Corpus Christi, TX for at least the next 7 months. PM with any questions if you like.

Thanks for all the replies. We're both line officers in the AF, put in for join spouse, and we got stationed 400+ miles apart.. For a number of personal reasons we're both going to chase SNA slots, so we're getting started on the research.

I am a Navy flight instructor, teaching both AF and Navy- definately seems the AF does a worse job with initial assignments. Seems to be very little consideration for co-lo, it is pretty strict performance ranking (at least as far as pilots are concerned) However, I know several dual-AF couples who seem to find it a lot easier to find jobs together after that first assignment than the Navy. Get lots of opinions and make sure you are looking past your first set of orders.

That's what we definitely aim to do. By the way, Ducky said that when you deploy you can't be in the same airwing; that means you can't be on the same boat, correct? It's not a deal breaker, considering my present job has a 1:1 dwell to deployment ratio, but I do want to make sure I understand everything.

No to the same boat. Because that would make you the only person on the boat having Legal Sex!!! But everyone else...make sure the doc is out of condoms before we hit port.
