hey viv, I was pretty damn pissed when I found out i cudnt even apply to USNA or NROTC but I just put out regular apps and landed at CU. I'm a College Programmer now, and I've got to say I'm having a blast. Every time I wake up for drill and Tuesdays and Thursdays, I pity the poor bastards at the military academies who do it every morning. Drill is fun...just not at 5:30 in the morning. Frankly, I've heard great things about NROTC, but I'm sure you'll make up your mind now that you're there.

I know exactly what a few of you went through back, because I had the same deal. I made it all the way down to the eligible candidates, a pool of what used to be about 2000, and my blue and gold officer told me I would be going to the academy if I was black. And affrimative action is supposed to do away with discrimination?

I applied to Annapolis for the class of 2007. 1430 SAT,top 20% of my class, Killer AP scores, maxed SAT2 Physics and Math2, went to Summer Seminar, 4 year letter winner in x-country, 3 year letter winner in wrestling, wrestling captain, etc. I got the Nomination, but not the appointment. Was PISSED about it, but when you need a vision waiver, you're pretty much fuqt for academy admissions. Took the Army ROTC scholarship over the Navy one (liked the school better). I was planning on reapplying, but I ended up with a different BGO who wasn't giving me information that jibed with what I knew from the previous year, so I eventually said to hell with it, I like Cal Poly.

Now that I'm here, you couldn't drag me into the Academy. I still want to be a Marine, so I'm applying for PLC.

Wutzu - Glad to hear you're happy with the ROTC program and good luck with becoming a marine! Yeah, I've heard quite a few stories like yours about the Academy. You just never know. My stats weren't anywhere close to a lot of the guys at the Summer Seminar, nor were they as close to some who didn't get invited. I have good grades (not great), but SAT is below average for the Academy, 2 letters and tons of leadership. I don't have any nominations yet, but only 1 senator has made a decision so far. I won't find out about the other one and congressman until the end of December or first part of January. I'm definitely not counting on it though. When did you hear about your scholarship for the Navy, if you recall?

My BGO is not exactly what I expected him to be like. He's a nice guy, but doesn't seem like he's into the job that much. Could be he wasn't impressed with me, although I thought the interview went very well. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten a turndown letter yet if he wrote up a nice report. Definitey gonna go with NROTC as my backup.
