How to find medical records from defunct hospitals

I need to find medical records from my childhood. In one case, the hospital is bankrupt and closed. In another case, I may have gotten phsychiatric counselling when a relative attempted suicide. They want records. What happens if I can't find them? Can I get a phsychiatric evaluation, show it to them and be done with it?

I don't have access to any of my old records, they said that was fine long as I wasn't a nut job. They end up evaluating you for stuff anyways and giving you whole new sets of immunizations.

I say again...N-O=Naval Opportunity...
They never looked into my records as a kid...don't worry about it...unless you actually told them stuff (usually the "I was an asthmatic...I was "depressed"...I used Ritalin" shit gets you noticed.)
They don't really care if you broke yer nose/hand/ribs when you were younger (I'm proof)

Don't bring shit up to the medics...it's none of their business anyway:D

Well, If were in your position I would provide proof that you made a good faith effort to obtain the records of the hospital. Maybe even go as far as looking into the court records of the bankruptcy.

WRT the counseling, is there a reason why you can't get those records? If so, it might be wise to document that also. Either way, if you get a new psychiatrist to say you are ok, that would be to your benefit. How long ago was the counseling? Were meds given....if so, what kind?

At MEPS, they gave me the whole, "tell us everything because we'll find out anyway" speech. I told them everything. I got into a bunch of trouble in high school (pretty normal stuff, I just didn't get away with much) plus bad grades so my parents sent me to Charter mental hospital until the insurance ran out. They advertised expertise with handling my type of case. Anyway, there was talk of my being depressed, but no medication. Bad behavior (nothing worthy of keeping me out of the Navy) continued until boot camp during which the fear of God was put into me.

I talked to the recruiter, and he said to write a letter (and have my parents do the same) stating what happened and how we've tried to get the records. The doctor at meps sounded like I'd have trouble if I couldn't locate the records.

I think I did the right thing by being honest. It just looks like it will be a major hassle. But then, I only have myself to blame for that.

If the records aren't available...seems like they are not...do the letter as mentioned above by your recruiter, then see if you can get a shrink to say you are ok. That should take care of your problem. No meds given is in your favor.

Don't fret about the getting in trouble thing. I got booted out of the dorms midway through my first semester....they said I was subject to arrest...didn't hurt my chances any.
