How I got Burned on my DITY Move!

But wait! My roommate and I were MISCOUNCELED! In other words, since Fort Leavenworth's head was further up their..... than my own... there might still be a chance. In fact, since it wasn't my roommate’s fault, it was Leavenworth's, when she is billed she'll be able to dispute the charge and it should get dropped, no harm and a free move for her! But for me? Well turns out the Navy's a little more stingy when it comes to cutting a check vs. forgiving a debt. No matter that I was miscounceled in the same way she was, I can expect no reimbursement.

Unfortunately, being mis-counciled means nothing to the Navy money people in PSD. They follow and comply with the letter of the law of the officer transfer manual and the JTFRs.

Which means that everyone will commiserate with you, and feel for you, but big Navy will F$%& you anyways on the pay side.

Hope for the best.

This is why I never take an advance on DLA or Dity move. I would rather complete the move then get a nice fat $3000 check that I got for my move down to Corpus and not have to worry about being over paid upfront.

Yea I didn't take an advance.. I had my check signed sealed delivered... then they wanted it all back 4 months later after I had waited 3 months for the original processing.

I do have the paperwork, and I pushed really hard at the time. I was shot down numerous times and while I usually never take no for an answer I thought my hopes were done. Yes, I have the document showing how I was miscounseled and this is what my roommate will use to avoid PAYING for a PCS move.

Doesnt matter!.. I had the paperwork too, they wanted me to fill out a correction of Naval Record, to which the local area cousel was like your f'd buddy, the Navy jacked you like a 3 dollar hooker in shang-hi

We are not even allowed to submit for our PCS allotment, i.e. Per diem of food and travel expenses until we arrive at our PCS, so Corpus. I was also told the best way to submit the DITY reimbursement paperwork was to wait until arriving at my PCS as well. I can't remember the logic there, maybe they're just trying to put off a bunch of paperwork.

This is correct.. you gotta wait.. but its the system..

Either way, I will look into this 120 day business. If I can get my orders changed to PCS then I think I will do that. Definately solves the move problem getting me paid for my DITY, I'll even change the topic of this post to "How I got burned on my DITY move and Airwarriors saved the day! Anyone disagree with this, maybe hold off on changing the orders to collect the per diem check at the end of the ride? I will probably be here an extra 3 months....

Whatdya think?

PSD buddy PSD... You should be able to get both

Okay. I'm gonna run this by yous guys and see if anyone can tell me it definitely won't work before I go into PSD and try it.

As I stated before, on January 5th I will have exceeded 180 days in Pensacola. Now, as I understand it, this means my orders cannot be TDY anymore.

If I go into PSD and raise this issue with them is there a chance of me being able to get the per-diem back pay that I now "technically" should have been entitled to while I was here TDY? Can I somehow compare my situation to the guys who have follow-on orders now and are getting fat per-diem checks? Is that feasble?

Or is it all just a pipe dream?

I'd like to know too. I'll be going in shortly to find out about the 120 day bit. If theres a way to work both I want to do that... isn't there a manual I should probably know about that this is written in or something?

same exact thing happened to me. but everything worked out because I was in pcola for 20 weeks and 2 days (20 weeks is the time mark which makes a tdy move turn into a pcs move). and when i moved to corpus i had a full pcs move (did hhg instead of dity) and got $1800 DLA.

Fellow El Cid grad -Here is what I was told last year when I was going through API last year. Because API itself is only 6 weeks long they base the TAD/PCS off how long the course is. BUT because of the wait, (Reported 1 Sept for A-pool, Classed up around 4 December, Checked out of API 26 January) they decided to do an order modification and change the accounting numbers so we were entitled to a PCS move. I'm trying to make this make sence...its sorta confusing, but pretty much since the class is only 6 weeks, they can in theory keep the orders TAD... Good luck, sorry if thats a confusing explaination, if you need any more help or have further question, let me know

If you have been there for 180 days then you are supposed to be able to have your orders modified from tdy to pcs. If they tell you that they can't do this then they are lying because they modified my orders and two other people in my api class that had been there for 140+ days. If they still won't help you, then request an audit. All of this was done through a lady that gave us our House Hold Goods brief during the last week of api. She had a contact in psd and with our detailer to get it done fast so that she could process our hhg papers.

God, this is so simple, you guys. Just do what I did--break your leg at the end of API, hang out for 5-6 months like I did so you end up in the Riveria for nearly a year while your roommate stiffs you on rides to the grocery store and acts like an general douche (and in the meantime his dog shits on your bed), and collect nearly $10k in per diem once you complete your move to the Shining City by the Sea (aka Corpus Christi after a heavy rainstorm), then spend it on hookers and blow in the asshole of Tejas.

I'm here to help.

Nomar, go axe the chief. You know what I'm talkin' about.

Not everyone can be so lucky...only one person EVER got hurt red-neck parasailing anyway, right??

$$10k?! That's ridiculous...ridiculously awesome! Where do I sign, they can keep my DITY money.

Theres no Chiefs around to axe! One person suggested going in and seeing the Dispersing officer which I just may go ahead and do...

A little birdy also told me that it might be 120 TRAINING days...?? Which leaves us falling way short... even if you are an a-pool veteran and manage to stretch out the fun with check-itous in IFS like all my friends seem to be doing!

Two guys get seriously injured every year doing that gay ass Air Force bullshiznit (the AF is why we do redneck parasailing). Go thank the next Zoomie you see for me.

I would go ask the Dispersing O, just so there isn't any more confusion on your part; you can come back and tell us how all this crap works.

The way I remember/know it is only via Corpus, but I do remember something about the 180 days, which is what helped me both on the move from Pcola to Corpus, since my orders had to become PCS since I'd been there that long (so I got a two no-cost mil moves to and from what should have been a TDY station--thank you, Ft. Leavenworth) and more than likely it helped with the per diem. All I did when I got to Corpus was talk to the PSD guy (Sam) at Trawing 4 and he hooked me up once I got proof I'd lived in Pcola for X amount of time.

Why is the AF behind redneck parasailing? Seems like golf in padded helmets is the most dangerous activity Big Blue would endorse. :D
