So, the parking lot is reserved for STA-21 board members until today, huh? I guess our fates have been sealed. Best of luck to everyone.

So wernama , mike said there was over 700 packages total. Did he say if they were screened for eligibility? normally 1/3 of all packages are disqualified. so that could make our chances that much more slimmer... and to vmiaptetr apparently from the main fy11 forum, the board broke wednesday and did not return. so in theory they finished two days early. that could be taken good or bad... All i know is, I am really calm. I have been wracking my brain which i am sure everyone on here has, but in the end, no one really knows what the board is looking for. you could have all 10s and not get selected or have 9 NAMS or no NAMs. its really just who views the packages. im just hoping i see my name on the list.

That's cool that they broke on Wednesday. I'd just really like the results to come out in early October. I'm not going to lie, I'd love to see my name on the list. I guess we'll see what happens. I don't know what they were looking for in a package, but I still think many of us put together outstanding packages, and regardless of what happens, should be proud of that fact.

I think that he was just giving me a rough estimate of how many pacakages he recieved, I really didnt ask him how many packages were board eligible. I asked him back in mid-july if my package would be reviewed before the Aug. 1 deadline and his response was "I hope so but, we have over 700 packages to review" ...

    Airwarriors, Airwarriors, Airwarriors, Airwarriors, Airwarriors.

Is that good for five. I may see about driving to Jax to collect. :)

P.S. If your name is on it, know that chk13 and I bribed the board members to get your name on it so really you should come to P-cola and give us the shot. :)
(No BS, if you are on it congrats and it was all you. I really would never try a feat like that from anyone.)

I think that there are quite a few of us in Pensacola! I'm down for drinks after results come out! Regardless of if I'm on it or not- I'm going to need one either way!! I can't believe that we're almost into October. In less than a week it'll be the 1st!

I think that is a fine idea, how many of us are in P-cola and are down with going to get a few drinks the weekend after results (as long as it isn't my duty weekend????

Heck, I am going tubing tomorrow at Styx River in Alabama, does anyone want to go????

remember boys and girls...the navy says that RESPONSIBLE DRINKING is 2-3 drinks a day. You can't save your drinks up for a few days and still be a RESPONSIBLE DRINKER in the navy, they have expert evidence that shows these facts.

And when Ohio State LOSES to the ILLINI on Saturday, I will be using my Weekly stash, whether or not the Navy thinks it is responsible!!!

Hahaha that's too funny. Hopefully illini wins. My bestfriend AJ Jenkins play for them. Can't never cath the games over here. New England is biased when it comes to sports. Any hoo! Go Illini!

Thats awesome. AJ is a pretty good wide out. You gotta love how Zook recruits back in Florida still, even after leaving the Gators. So are you gonna try and go to school in somewhere in Florida or whats your choice?

Yea he is pretty good. Im going to the game when they play Northwestern. He got me field seats. I told him im going to watch his skinning self get destroyed. (we always joke about how he is skinny) he says "If he makes it to the NFL, Ray Lewis is going to break him in half" HAHA. But i have been accepted to UNF. but it depends on how packed their unit is. i have also been accepted to Clark Atlanta and Georgia State. so who knows!

Does a regional BJOY award carry any weight with the board? Opinions?

Thats awesome man. You know, I thought about going to UNF, my wife is from the Pensacola area, and it would be closer to her home, but with the Illinois Vet Grant that will pick up everything that STA-21 doesn't, Champaign was a good choice. I'm trying to major in Aviation Hum Factors so the flight time could put me over the 10K a yr...

You know, there is a chance that it could. The precept that I posted on this a while back listed SOQ as points as far as "awards". If nothing else, it shows that your are an above avg. sailor. So I'm sure that it will help you. It CERTAINLY won't hurt you.

FYI- That "precept" is on my page as a blog entry, in case you haven't seen it.

    Stats

    Applying for Pilot/Core
    ASTB: PFAR-6/AQR-5/FOFAR-5 OAR-47
    MP's across the board//FCSA,FCSN,FC3,FC2
College: Haven't sat down and put all the electronic engineering courses I've done through Navy towards any college. Trying to work with ODU on that.
Highschool: Didn't do to swell, typical teenager who didn't do homework but aced all the test...Hindsight being 20/20 not very smart.
Awards:Good conduct, 2 LOA's (from community service), Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
    TIS: 4 1/2 yrs
    LOR's:1 CDR (former Air Boss)
    ACT: 23 Overall (23 Math, 21 English)

The hard thing to accept is the fact I can't go back in time and do better in high school :/
So what do you guys thinks, do I have a shot?

MC- Well first step is applying, so good on you. Minimums are set for a reason for stuff like ASTB and ACT. My buddy got picked up last year w/ just that, the mins in those, so your covered there. Good on you, 2 warfare pins, only 4 yrs service. I feel the same way as you about highschool, didn't study during the week but did good on the test on friday. With that said, if the board see's that since HS you have done more classes and excelled in them, they see that as maturity. If you don't have any classes to show for yourself, it could be viewed as a fault. That is just what I have read from lessons learned over the past few years...not an expert opinion. Either way, good luck these next few days/weeks. I will be lookin' for your name.

    McCrary,
Let me start by saying "absolutely, you have a shot."
Now let me address some of the areas you may be worried about in order to make a package you put in even stronger:
You are obviously concerned about your high school grades. There are a couple of ways to counter act that. College, college, college. Anything you can do in college will outshine anything you did in high school, good or bad. The biggest thing the board is worried about is committing the navy's time and money on you and you not being able to close the deal in college. So what you do is start knocking out a class here and there. But you dont want to take any underwater basket weaving classes. You need to take the classes that count towards your desired degree. The absolute best class you can start with is Calculus I (obviously any class that prepares you for cal I first). This is because, regardless of what option you try for you are required to take cal I at least. I noticed that you might be going for engineering, so you will definitely require all of your calculuses (or is it calculi ?...lol) This will prove you have the proficiency to do well in college and also that you have matured since high school (two birds with one stone).
Next: Remember that minimum scores are just that. So if you are looking for fy12's selection year I would try and see if I could bring either the ASTBs up or ACTs up one or the other or both. Now there have been people who got selected with the minimum scores but had something else in their package to offset that.
You need to keep in mind many of us have navy experience and training that will transfer over to college so that is not necessarily a competitive measure.
Your dual pins will definitely work in your favor...good job on that. That shows you do more than just enough to get by. You go the extra mile. Although FCs advance rather quickly (especially AEGIS) you seem to be setting a great pace. That will look well for you too.
Community service is a great plus and I see you mentioned that. So keep that up.
Finally, ANY opportunity to show (and have documented) leadership capabilities and experience is exactly what they are looking for.
Hopefully you write your own evals as a 2nd make sure you are loading it up with leadership traits. I know they will change it here and there but at least try to get as much in there.
I hope this gets you started and on your way. Remember your personal statement and your board presence is very important as well. If you have any questions about those do not hesitate to ask here. Good luck and let any of us know what we can do to help.
I will leave you with this little piece of advice. Print the instruction (not as long as you would expect) and study it. Know it inside and out...It will be your best friend throughout the process....AW will be a close 2nd but a 2nd none the less.

One more thing...pull up the precept that Price mentioned above. It will kind of let you rank yourself a little and tell you what is worth points and what the board is directed to look for. I and many others found it very useful and informative.

Price-I think we posted the last posts at exactly the same time, when I hit the reply button it did not go and so I got a way to make it go and when I looked at it yours and mine was there...(i just found it humorous...of course it does not take much with me right now...lol) Great minds...

Let the countdown begin. If my nerves weren't high enough already, knowing that they could possibly be out at a moment's notice is unnerving.
