I hope that those of us being MTS qualified will give us a that extra inch to set us apart from the rest of the applicants.

From what I understand each board is different, but someone who sat on the '06 board showed me the instructions he was given as a board member. It outlined the entire point structure of how each application is "pre-scored" and what each item was worth. Then listed the discretionary items that the board members score. Basically after it's pre-scored, and two members review it (their scores have to be close or else someone else has to look as well) you end up with a final score. Now I was a non-sellect in '06 but I mentally scored my package while he let me look over the paperwork (he made me stay in his office and said I couldn't make a copy of it since I probably wasn't even supposed to see it). I ended up with about a 90 roughly, which is an arbitrary number except that he told me I was very close to the cutoff point for CORE. Obviously each year is going to have different candidates and there will be different scoring. But that had MTS worth the same as a warfare qual, which wasn't a huge point value, but it was at least something. That along with things like SAT score, Associates, has/has not taken calc, or calc based phys. were all pre-scored. The board members reviewing your package get to give you points based on your statement and other little things that you've done that don't fit in the categories of the pre-scored items. Anyhow, that's most of the gouge I have accumulated through hearsay on the whole process. But who knows if any of that info will be accurate for this years board. Right.

How many days did it take from where you were until you had confirmation? I'm wondering when I should get worried about mine. It got mailed on the 30th I think and still nothing. (from Hawaii)

It was sent off on a Monday and the following Monday they had received it. Are there any guys out there who are current OC's at Iowa State or planning to go to Iowa State?

Well, I found out why I haven't received any confirmation regarding the receipt of my package. The YN1 that mailed mine sent it to Great Lakes, IL...Now up until now I have really tried to give most yeoman the benefit of the doubt. But seriously, there is absolutely no excuse for being that incompetent! His excuse was that he looked up the address by what the cover letter said it was "TO:" but I can't figure that one out because it isn't even close to the command he decided to send it to. So needless to say there is a very good possibility that I could be completely screwed this year and out of the running.:icon_rage

Maybe not, there are exceptions to that deadline. A YN1 that screwed it up could potentially be one of those. Especially since they sent it while you were gone. May try calling Pcola to see if that's a possibility.

I would be on the Phone today trying to get something done. But perhaps the best bet would be to have your CO call. I'm sure he or she will have more clout when it comes to explaining his YN1's incompetence.

I would send another copy...Fedex...overnight. Do it yourself this time.

Okay so the plot thickens...While my DH was in the CO's office trying to explain why we sent the application to the wrong state and convince him to sign a letter explaining it all. The yeoman walks in and suddenly remembers he actually might have sent it to the right place. So I login to the STA21 website AGAIN and sure enough, they received it today...So how about wasting a whole bunch of time and running around for nothing. I should have just waited another day and never even talked to that guy.

I would do one better and buy him a beer or two. Despite his fuckup (sort of) I am sure that he has put more than a few of his hours into this package...

Oh quite the contrary...his contribution was simply collecting the completed package placing it in the envelope and mailing it off. Not sure if it got the binder clip in the upper left hand corner like the instruction states so explicitly because I'm positive he didn't reference the instruction even though it is listed as a reference on the cover letter. I know that because he said he got the mailing address from the website.

On a side note...has anyone had to send in any corrections yet? No comments showed up on mine (on the website) but that's because I don't think they're finished processing it. It says received but not received under each subpart. I would be pleasantly surprised if there were no corrections to be made...had to send some updates in last two times.

It took about a week for mine to show the individual receipts...and yeah I had to send some things in but that was pretty painless.

I had to submit a few things when I sent mine in too and it was no problem. When you do submit corrections, I would definitely call Pensacola every time you send something and make sure that the copy he received (via fax or e-mail) made it there and is good to go. It would suck to fax a load of stuff over and assume that it is taken care of when in fact you just sent a load of garbled garbage that no one can read.
Just my small bit of advice.
Good luck to all of you who are chewing your fingers off waiting.

    Concur with Spot,
I would see if you can scan the documents and send them digitally.

Obviously you can't be too careful...but I just faxed my stuff and followed up by email. The response was quick and everything was good to go.

I just got confirmation that my packaged was received along with all required documents. This is my first time applying and this waiting game SUCKS. Its worse than waiting for advancement results!! Good luck to everyone else that applied, and hopefully an ample amount of spots are available.

I'm eluding the waiting game by keeping busy and taking classes at TCC like I normally would. Nothing else to do besides work for the man, drink beer, chase tail and repeat. I hope to see all our names on that NAVADMIN in October.

Yeah, I would have occupied my time with TCC but my command failed me with the chit, taking over 2 months to get it back. So I have resorted to community service and HOUSE WORK this summer!! I am debating on taking Fall classes because I don't want to be half way through a semester and then trying to get the final pieces together if I get accepted. On the other hand, I dont want to miss the opportunity on college credits/eval if I dont get picked up. Catch 22. O well...

    Reply from Pensacola

Has everyone had their package status updated on the status page of the STA-21 website? Mine is still listed as received 7/5/2007 but no update on individual items. Looks like I'll be calling to inquire on Monday.

And some advice I received on the interviews for those applying next year, when asked what you'd do if you don't get accepted this time, don't say 'get out of the Navy' or something similar, they are looking for you to say that you will keep trying. Oh and don't say you want to be an officer for the money. We have ITs that are making more than LTs over here with the AIP.
