NEVER saw it in my fleet squadron (old HC) but many of the HS/HSC(Cvw) guys I flew with on my shore tour did it. I enjoyed doing it because it drove the NATOPS Nazis bananas (I was the safety officer)
Interesting. I thought I recall it partially being in order to comply with NATOPS, only faster. I think Ng had to be below a certain level for a certain period of time (2 minutes maybe? I'd have to break out my old NATOPS) before shutting down. I may be wrong though.

It was one of those things that wasn't explicitly allowed by NATOPS but wasn't disallowed. Therefore, some folks couldn't comprehend that it was ok (looking at your HSL bubbas...)
