Fugly weekend for the SEC so far. Mississippi State loses to South Alabama. Tennessee has to have overtime to escape Appalachian State after ASU misses an extra point. Missouri loses to WVU. South Carolina had to have a 55 yard field goal with less than a minute to beat Vandy. Arkansas currently tied with LA Tech. LSU down at halftime to Wisconsin.

Saw that the Oregon Ducks are starting four - that is 4 - redshirt freshmen offensive lineman today.
South Carolina was super lucky witht that field goal. I pretty sure that was his first made attempt from 50+ yards out. He missed the other 3-4 in his carrer.
The post game interview is definitly worth watching though. http://thebiglead.com/2016/09/02/so...golf-on-sportscenter-after-game-winning-kick/

Off on a tangent to the NFL for a second, but I just learned that Sam Spence passed away earlier this year. For those of you too young to remember, he set the memorable music to NFL Films - which now you can hear quite often in SpongeBob SquarePants of all places. When paired with the baritone rumble of announcer John Facenda "The Voice of God", it was an unbeatable combination. A few links for everyone...

Completely turned off the NFL since players started kneeling for the national anthem. However watching some old school NFL Films from the 1970's and the only running back who got an unnecessary roughness penalty for punishing the poor defender who tried to tackle him: big #39 of the Miami Dolphins, Larry Csonka.

Game 3. What a pitcher's duel. Down to end with runners in scoring position but the Cubs couldn't make it the last 90 feet. Hope this series goes 7 - who needs the NFL!

Could be a very heated argument where Penn State wins the BIG-10 - but Ohio State gets the invitation to the National Championship playoff it it beats Michigan. (Penn State beat Ohio State head to head this year.)

Barring any upsets, one could guess that Alabama, Clemson and Washington (all conference champions) will get in - but that leaves the problem noted above.

Obviously, I'm extremely biased. :D

That said, loyalty to my alma mater aside, I think it's still a shitty precedent to disinvite a hypothetical conference champion in favor of another team FROM THEIR DIVISION who they beat head to head. Other teams should be able to get in on the coattails of a conference champion, but not instead of one. You can pontificate all you want, but the record on the field is the record on the field. Elsewise, why bother playing the games? Just have scouts show up to practice and vote on the championship.

That said, this is purely a hypothetical unless and until our boys get past MSU and Wisconsin. And this is not the same team that knocked off the Bucks; we're down three starting offensive linemen due to injury, and the depth still isn't quite there at that position. Luckily Trace McSorley has the wheels to do something when the pocket collapses, not just sit there and get pounded like Hack did.

At any rate, at this point I'm perfectly happy with however the season goes. Obviously I want PSU to win. But compared with where this team was expected to be in August, and what they showed the first few games, James Franklin is playing with house money right now. A whole pile of it.

Aretha Franklin is a national treasure, but good google moogly! It's a good thing the MINN v DET game was indoors. I can't imagine trying to time your TOT with that rendition.
