ALOHA: Anyone have any PERSONAL experience w/ one of these ... ??? Pro's, con's, what do you think about the ammo ... all the usual suspects ... yada, yada, yada ... ??? Thanks in advance.
Never fired one, but saw one in action at a ballistic shock plate demonstration. Chewed through the NYPD's standard issue vest like candy. Very impressed.
Yeah, but, yeah, but, yeah, but ... I don't know what class of protection the NYPD's standard vest is ... but the super-impressive SS190 cartridge is not available to civilians ... at least not "legally".
STOP SAYING THAT!!! THE PS90 IS THE UGLIEST F'IN' CARBINE I'VE EVER SEEN!!! But you are probably right ....
You could try going for an AR-15 style upper that is made for the 5.7mm round. The craptastic performance of 5.7mm but in an AR-style rifle.
Especially the civilian model, with the "legal" barrel. That AR is amazing. I didn't know there was such a conversion.
Yeah, it's out there ... one example: AR Five Seven But back to the pistol ... ??? Anyone?? Anyone ?? Buehler??
Why bother with a carbine in 5.7mm when you can get the only true semi-auto carbine..... The .30 carbine has more than twice the energy of the 5.7mm and a longer effective range. But I was just playing with the following http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.30_Carbine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.7x28mm And the M1 is just prettier!
colleague of mine has one... it's great fun, like shooting a .22 with just a tad more kick. he carries it off duty too, somehow it's easier to conceal than the issued P2000.
I've never fired that pistol but the plus side of having a bottle-necked cartridge is that you're likely to have very few, if any, feeding errors while shooting.
@ $940 +/- for a NIB w/ 3 magazines on several auction websites ... most dealers are OUT right now and the ones who have them are usually asking > $1100 for them ... the ammo is @ $20/box for 50 rounds. That's a lot of money if you consider the Five-seveN to be a hyped-up .22 ... so don't consider it as such ....
Been there, done that several times ... but the real reason?? Just to try something "new", I guess ...
5.7 ar It looks to me like someone trained on a black rifle would have a hell of a time changing magazines on that 5.7. I 'spose though that with 50 rounds at your disposal changing mags is going to be relatively infrequent. Also, is the magazine well sealed? Anyways... what's the point of the 5.7 in an AR platform? Besides the extra 20 rounds, it seems you're tossing more expensive rounds downrange for no significant gain in performance v. 5.56x45mm. According to the Oraclewikipedia, "FN Herstal has stated that the SS190 round will easily penetrate protections that stop normal pistol rounds, but will not penetrate protections that stop the 5.56x45 mm NATO round such as Level III armor." How did we produce two such beautiful rifles in the same time frame... M1... M1?
'Cause the country had its shit together?? (in a relative sense) Had the will?? Had its priorities straight?? Had a common purpose?? Could do something w/out computers?? Could do something w/out years of R&D?? Knew how to procure for military purposes?? None of the above?? Anyway .... I don't know anything about the AR adaptation of the cartridge. As such, I'll probably eschew both the AR adaptation (and stick w/ 5.56x45mm) AND the P90 just 'cause I can't get the cartridge of choice AND it's possibly the most butt-ugly firearm I have seen to date.
Maybe it was the fact that they didn't have to take in account how building the weapon would affect some rare ground worm found near the factory?
Lacking any meaningful input from anyone ... ... I went ahead and "pulled the trigger" ... no pun. AND ... I bit the bullet (pun) and ordered a whole bunch ... as in a WHOLE bunch ... of rounds, too. Bite me Nancy Pelosi.
I'm not getting the five-seven but I'm interested to see how it performs. I do, however, plan on buying the FNP.40 SW as a Christmas gift to myself in honor of our new Commander in Chief (pending)
Just don't ever run out of rounds A4... I, however, went the OTHER direction! US marked Colt Model 1917 carried by a friend's Uncle when he was Deputy and later Sheriff of Caddo Parish down in Louisiana. .45 ACP in moon clips Since I just ordered 4000 more rounds of .45, I 'think' I'm good for a while The second pic is a comparison between the 1917 and my G26 carry piece. It's a BIG pistol!
