Flight Pay Changes

Ok, so just talked to the guys at the bureau and they missed a couple of guys. What they are saying is that as a LT, once you screen for DH AND go over 10 years, you get the higher amount. You stay at the higher amount even after your DH tour, regardless of where you go next (on or off track). You also don’t have to be currently serving as a DH, CO, etc. Once you get the higher amount, you keep it until you FOSx2 for the next milestone, ie CO, or Major Command.

You might not have thought it was vague, but you misinterpreted it just the same. It should be written so that there aren’t questions about who gets it. I think thats called being vague? Maybe I’m just old? Sorry, not sorry.

If that is their intent then their message isn't vague, it is just wrong.

I can't see the breakdown yet on my latest LES but I am not seeing a pay bump either. Surprise... According to what you are saying I should be.

If you look at the end of the message, their is a LCDR Parente Pers-435, as the first POC. Call him directly as he is the one who makes the change in the system to allow for the higher pay. He told me that he and one other guy had to hand screen over 12000 records and of the 12000, 2000+ were eligible for the higher rate. When we talked today, he had talked to 4 people who thought they were eligible and didn’t get paid. They were all correct and he fixed the issue. Call him and he will get it squared away for you. If you can’t find his number, give me a shout and I will send it to you.

Enjoy it while you can then. :D
01 Sep. Seems pretty stupid I would qualify for an increase with an approved retirement date that was submitted last year. Hell, give my increase to one of those 42% or enlisted, AF UAV pilots, something !!!

I’m sure if you contacted the PERS POC, they would happily take their money back. ;)

Interesting. My paycheck didn't go up, but I'm FOSx2 for Operational Command. I didn't really read the message that closely, so I'm figuring that's normal, right?

Daddy could use the extra $320 before I become a fixed-income retiree who plans to block every commissary isle I come in contact with.

In your rascal scooter of course. Don’t forget to correct all the nasties you see at the commissary and NEX too.

Thread resurrection!!! YES!!!! The Army has finally gotten onboard and implemented the flight pay increase. I got an email from DFAS that said that the flight pay increase was going to show on my next LES, retroactive to Jan 1, 2020. Then, underneath was another statement about the difficulty in increasing flight pay amounts in the system because flight pay hadn't been changed in over 20 years!

LMAO...Here's the exact wording on the email from DFAS:

"This is to inform you that your Aviation Incentive Pay (AvIP) rate increase adjustment that was approved on January 8, 2020 has been made retroactive effective January 1, 2020 and will be reflected in your March mid-month or end-of-month pay, depending on your current pay election."

"Since the Army's AvIP rates have not changed in twenty plus years, a manual interim fix had to be developed and tested until the payroll system is reprogrammed to accommodate the rate changes for all military services. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process."

Does anybody know what my pay would be as an O-1 with 3.5 years of active duty service? I calculated my points and I’m going to be about 90 shy of the 1,460. Do I drop down to O-1 with 2 years or less or will I get O-1 over 3 years? It’s an $800 difference between O-1 and O-1E, really hoping I don’t drop.

Your enlisted flight pay days don’t count towards your commissioned flight pay. You start at zero. I was an enlisted crewman for 5 years before becoming a pilot. I started at zero. It sucks.

If you were at five years then you should have started at O-1E then, it’s a minimum of four years right?
